Fifth Third Burger

Ever been to the ballpark when you just had to have that super extra cheesy order of chili fries or had to have a ballpark hot dog regardless of whether you are hungry or not?  Or, have you thought about how great an idea all-you-can-eat seats are?  Or even more, have you checked out some of the food that is available out there today like the 4,800 calorie Fifth Third burger in Michigan or the multiple ballpark food options profiled on a recent episode of Man v. Food?  I know I have, members of the WIBIA staff have and I’m sure many of you out there have too.

It turns out (and you can read about it in this article), that whether they realize they are doing it or not, ballparks are masters of creating foods that cater to the brain’s pleasure circuitry and when you go to the park and see those kinds of foods inviting you in, you are naturally more disposed to take advantage of these foods even if you don’t want to.  It’s almost an overpowering effect that has broken many paying customers.

Now, I am by no means supporting or condemning overeating at the ballpark, but it is an interesting article and it somewhat relates to the book review that was posted yesterday, so check it out if you have a few spare minutes this weekend.
