I don’t think we here at Would I Buy It Again? have been shy about our love for Dairy Queen. There have been many reviews of their foods, treats, etc., so seeing this review of their June 2012 Blizzard of the Month pop up here on the blog should not come as a surprise to anyone.
What I Got: Medium Turtle Brownie with Pecans Blizzard; $3.69.
According to the Dairy Queen website, this Blizzard treat consists of “Pecans, caramel and chewy brownie pieces blended with creamy vanilla soft serve” and using my magnificent observation skills, I was able to confirm that all of these were there. The one thing that did impress me was the plentiful amount of brownie pieces that were in my mix, but as anyone that has been to Dairy Queen before, this is not something that has any consistency from location to location or from individual Blizzard to individual Blizzard. I guess I just got lucky in that respect. Where I didn’t get lucky was that there was seemingly only a squirt of caramel and as an avowed caramel lover, I was somewhat disappointed by that. The rest of the blizzard contained a decent amount of small pecans, so I really can’t complain there.
As far as the taste, well, all I can say is that I was in heaven. I love Turtle sundaes themselves (I think they are my favorite kind of sundae), so anytime you add brownie pieces to that, you are really appealing to the fat kid and/or glutton buried deep inside of me. As you would expect, the Turtle components of this Blizzard taste as you’d expect them to (ice cold vanilla soft serve ice cream, sweet and gooey caramel and then pecans to add a little additional salty crunch to the sugary caramel), but what really makes this one a huge winner in my book is the brownie pieces. They were definitely chewy and since my Blizzard included a ton of them (and they were HUGE), I was able to experience this wonderful chew many times over. The addition of the crunchy pecans added a wonderful textural difference to the chew of the brownies, so they worked perfectly in harmony with each other.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes, you bet your rear end that I would. As someone would would rather chew through my ice cream treats (meaning, I love add-ins) as opposed to just having spoonfuls melt in my mouth, this treat was right up my alley. In fact, I’d have to say that this is definitely in my top three Blizzards of all time. That’s how good it was. I’d rank it right up there (not sure what order) with the Nutter Butter Blizzard and the Girl Scouts Tagalong Blizzard, both of which I’ve drooled over on this blog. So, if you need a sweet and cooling treat this summer, head to your local Dairy Queen before June 30th and you will not be disappointed.
