Buffalo Chicken Wrap

Scotty’s Brewhouse
http://www.scottysbrewhouse.com/

I was headed out to lunch with some co-workers and since Scotty’s is nearby, we decided to stop there for lunch.  I’ve seen via Twitter and their website that Scotty’s has daily lunch specials for $6 that include a drink, so I had to take advantage.

What I Got:  Half Buffalo Chicken Wrap with a side and drink $6 (part of the daily $6 lunch menu)

Scotty’s buffalo chicken wrap is served in a honey wheat tortilla that includes cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, ranch dressing and breaded chicken fingers.  For my wrap, the chicken fingers were flavored with mild sauce (you are only allowed mild sauce as part of the lunch special) and I must say, this thing was delicious.  Also, for only being a half wrap, it was quite sizeable as well.  The chicken fingers were also delicious and tender and when you combined all the cool flavors together, this was a winning combination.

For my side, I chose waffle fries and they were delicious as well.  Perfectly crispy and perfectly seasoned.  Also, for a cheap, affordable lunch special, I was astounded by the number of fries that came with the order.  It was definitely impressive.

Would I Buy It Again?  Definitely yes.  For $6, I was shocked at the amount of food that I got and by the quality of the food as well, not to mention the fact that $6 also included the drink.  Honestly, this is one of the better (if not the best) lunch specials around that is not at a fast food establishment.  Also, I’ve never been a huge wrap person, but this one was good enough that I would consider ordering the full size wrap at my next Scotty’s visit because this one was so tasty.

The only drawback to Scotty’s is its popularity and I say that in the kindest way.  Because Scotty’s is so popular, you often times ending up waiting for a table and also have slower than average lunch service.  That’s not their fault though because they really are putting a good product out there and no restaurant would be able to stay ahead of that volume.

Rally's Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

What I AteRally’s (known as Checkers in some parts of the country) Buffalo Chicken Sandwich $1

I absolutely LOVE food that has the buffalo sauce flavor and when you mix that with a sandwich that costs only $1 (currently on a promotion; I believe regular cost is $1.49), you basically have me at hello.  This one checks in at 340 calories, so it’s not a complete punch to the health stomach.

The Rally’s Buffalo Chicken sandwich is a nice sized, breaded chicken patty served on their traditional sesame seed bun with lettuce and ranch dressing.  The buffalo sauce used has got quite a flavorful and spicy kick to it and when I did a little research on Rally’s website, I found out that they use Franks Red Hot® buffalo wing sauce as their sauce, and if you’ve ever had Frank’s before, you would know that is the source of the kick.  You’ve got to hand it to Rally’s…they have no shame about not having anything proprietary and instead use other people’s products on their food.  First, there was the chicken wings review that I did where I was convinced that they were using the same Tyson frozen chicken wings that you can buy at the grocery store (unconfirmed) and now they are openly flaunting the fact that they use Frank’s sauce for their buffalo chicken products.  While the restaurant may lose points for originality, anything that makes the food taste better definitely gets my seal of approval.

Would I Buy It Again?  Yes, but only because it’s a dollar and I love buffalo sauce.  If they would switch to blue cheese dressing instead of ranch dressing (not a big fan of ranch), this would become an absolute must have for me.

Uncle D’s New York Pizza
430 E. Kirkwood
Bloomington, IN
http://www.uncledsnewyorkpizza.com/

Pizza by the slice is sometimes an appetizer, a meal, a dessert and even a food night cap.  Today, it was my lunch.  I heard some good things about D’s, so let’s get it on.

What I Ate:  2 Slices.  Mushroom and Buffalo Chicken.   My wife had a chicken/garlic/tomato and cheese slice.  They had a special, 2 slices and a drink $6.00

The mushroom slice had white, portabella, cremini and shitake.  Mushrooms appeared to be sautéed and then put on the pizza.   It had great taste and texture and the mix of mushrooms added a complexity not found on a normal slice of ‘shroom.  This is a slice that a chef would make.

Buffalo Chicken stole the show.  If you are a pizza and wing junkie, then you met your fix.  Great flavor and the chicken was plentiful and fresh.  It tasted as if was grilled there that day (the slice on the right).

Chicken/garlic/tomato was solid as well.  If you like margarita pizza and would like to add meat without changing the flavor profile, then this is for you (the slice on the left).

Cheese is not a topping nor should it be on pizza by itself.  I am not going to review cheese pizza.  My wife loved it though.

Would I Buy It Again? Yes, easily.  I wish there was one in Indy as it would be the best NY Pizza by the slice in the city.  For $6, I was stuffed and I can eat a good amount of pizza.  Folks, without a doubt, this is the best pizza in Bloomington.

Highly Recommended and good enough to make the WIBIA Hall of Fame.
