Excellent review!! I enjoyed reading it. I have eaten at both throughout the years and find both enjoyable. Clearly, thought, this person did not ask to use the restroom at Lafayette. That is a story all in it’s own. However, the food is outstanding and a very good value.

American is commercial, and over done. I would think of it as ‘someones take on what a coney should be’. While Lafayette is a real coney and has naturally grown to become that here in Detroit; it isn’t trying to be something. It is a true working mans place.

Fun review to read, nicely done! I’d be interested to know if there’s some sort of record for coney’s eaten in a sitting. I know after a few beverages (ok…many beverages) I can throw down some serious grub. I’ll bet more than a few fat Soviet Red Army, I mean Red Wings fans have taken down 10 and lived to tell about it. That’s enough nitrites for an entire year.

Awesome post and enjoyed the read. I had a Detroit Coney and I can’t say there was anything about it that I had to have again and still consider it to be overhyped. Then again, if I lived in the grind of Detroit, this might be that little glimpse of sunshine that would get you through the day.

For the record, I would not put Indianapolis Eater’s Chili on a hot dog, nor would I give it to my dog. Revolting!
