It is somewhat amazing that the blog has existed for this long without this post.
Eating, drinking, and playing/listening to music are the three things that I really like to do. A cold beer after a hard day’s work, a stiff drink when beer is not going to do the trick, a toast of bubbly to celebrate – you name it, booze always seems to find a place at the table.
In fact, I am spending more time drinking some of the awesome craft beers that are being made in Indiana than I am eating at new places. Flat 12 and the Upland Seasonal beers have been gracing my palate quite a bit lately.
Now, I am not talking about glorifying the sport of drinking – getting shit faced and waking up in the drunk tank with a newly made friend that is sporting knuckle tattoos. Gentleman drinking if you will. It is fine if you are drunk, but don’t act like a jerk.
Knowing that a good bender is coming to an end, I like a food chaser to end the night. No matter if it was a gourmet feast with a nightcap at the Libertine or jamming to Skynyrd trackside at Carb Day, these bad boys are calling my name.
Four huge, hand rolled breadsticks stuffed with a real Mozzarella and Provolone cheese blend and pepperoni, served with marinara and nacho cheese sauce
In my opinion, there is not better drunk food. End of story. The cheese sauce is nothing special, neither is the marinara. It makes me laugh that cheese is an option when there is already cheese in the breadsticks. To that, I say… “America F- Yeah!!!” The breadstick itself is where it is at. It is not your usual breadstick. It reminds me of the thickness of Yorkshire Pudding with a little bit of give rather than unused pizza dough that you get at most places. The pepperoni adds a little bit of needed salt.
To tell the truth, it is not high brow at all, but it is in my top ten best things that I have ever ate.
I tend to wonder if this is an association with my time at IU. I would hit Kilroy’s on Kirkwood as much as possible when they had them on special. Ten cent wings (they are good as well), fifty cent breadsticks and 32 oz Bud Light was $2.50. Hit Kilroy’s after the student loan check hit and we were eating like kings. How things have changed in welve years…
So lets hear it, what is your go to food chaser?
