There are a handful of people that know that I write this blog and I got two calls in the same week from friends that told me that I have to give it a try. I like a good hot dog from time to time and I was pretty amped to give it a try.
What I Ate: Chili Dog and Mac and Cheese and a drink. Around $7.00 with tax
The Vienna Beef hot dog had chili, raw onions and cheese on it. It was a normal sized dog and bun. I have to admit, I didn’t think that it was anything to write home about. It surely wasn’t bad, but there wasn’t anything about it that I haven’t had before. I would be interested to know if the chili is homemade. There was so much cheese on this, I could barely taste the chili.
The mac and cheese was pretty tasty. I added a little salt and pepper and I really enjoyed it. It had a little bit of a browned crust on it. I can’t say that I would run there only for the mac and cheese, but I have no reservations in ordering it again.
Would I Buy It Again? No to the chili dog, but yes to Zacky’s. They are extremely friendly and this place reminds me of the million hot dog places in Chicago and Northwest Indiana (my ‘hood). They have an Italian Beef sandwich and that is on my radar for next time. They also have a lot of different hot dogs with bacon, blue cheese, Mexican dogs, etc. You can get pretty crazy here.

That’s way too much cheese for a non-Skyline chili dog. That stuff looks straight out of the bag… and nobody wants to eat that much shredded cheese dusted with cellulose/natamycin powder. Skyline can only get away with it because they shred their cheese in-house. The mac looks good though!
I must have missed the post where you mentioned you were from the Region. Hammond here.
We tried Zacky’s and they were very friendly but I was completely unimpressed with the food, and the fries were cold by the time we got to the car.
No thank you. I kind of miss T-Balls in Noblesville; they were so nice and they had all the standards of a good hot dog joint.
Hubs tried it the other day and said the service was fantastic. I asked him how the food was and he said ‘meh’ so it makes me wonder. I’ll still give it a go, especially with the mac and cheese. I’ll avoid the chili dog though, thanks for posting as always!
I have to say 7 bucks for a chili dog and mac and cheese seems a bit steep
Giant *FWOMP* of basic shredded cheese? I’d like to see them melt it down, or mix in something to make it special. Quality trumps quantity.
@Andi: I kind of lost confidence in T-Balls when I witnessed him buying his hot dogs at GFS Marketplace. Seeing that they were just from a restaurant supply store and nothing special (read: made in-house), it made me lose all desire to go there. It is too bad to see a nice, local business fall though.
I might be alone in this thought but I think chilli dogs are overrated. In my 28 years on this planet I have yet to be “WOWED” by a chilli dog.
It would be nice if their website described what was on each of the dogs or something.
Aw.
To be fair, I usually ordered from the fried veggies section of the menu. Husband would normally order the hot dogs but he never complained. Maybe I should go to GFS.
