The Deal Decoder segment brought me to this pizza. Large pizza with two toppings for $5.99. I have been on a major pizza kick lately and for $6, I figured why not. Plus, the new recipe came out in January 2010 (our initial review) and this is my first time trying it.
What I Ate: Large pizza with sausage and pepperoni; $5.99.
On the way home, I noticed a pretty strong garlic smell coming from the box and I was looking forward to giving it a try. Upon opening the box, it looked like any other chain pizza. I noticed a few gaps were there appeared to be very little cheese or sauce. The crust was pretty chewy and I prefer a little more crisp on the bottom. However, it did appear as if it was cooked to what they intended to do. I tasted very little sauce, so I can’t really comment on if it added anything to the equation. The sausage was nothing to talk about and pepperoni was a little bland as well.
What I liked a lot is the garlic seasoning that is around the crust. It is gluttonously buttery and pretty tasty really. I know that it was an unnecessary touch, but I thought that it added a lot of flavor to a pretty bland pizza.
Would I Buy It Again? For $6.00, Sure – only because it is the best $6.00 pizza that I have ever had. Considering that it is only $1.00 more than a Hot ‘N Ready from Little Caesars (keep in mind only one topping on the Hot ‘N Ready), I thought that the Domino’s pizza tasted better and was a better value. I would also say that it is better than most frozen pizzas at that price point. Based on taste alone, I like it better than Papa John’s, Jack’s and Hot Box. This is the first time that I have had a Domino’s pizza in more than a year and it was better than I expected.

I used to hate dominos but I find with their new sauce and thin crust they have gone from my least to most favorite when it comes to the chain brands. I find the feta/red pepper combo to make a pretty awesome pie for $6.
Plus those hot n ready pizzas have like one or actual pieces of the topping per slice. That thing above is loaded up.
should read “OF THE” instead of “or” … Wow.
I actually like Domino’s new pizza. The problem is that it all depends on how each individual store cooks the pizza. Our neighborhood store always cooks what seems to be a perfect pizza. I do have them go light on the cheese (an option available on-line) though. I ordered from another store once and the pizza wasn’t cooked very well. I had forgot to tell them light on the cheese and the cheese was barely cooked fully through. It just wasn’t a very good pizza. It all depends on if the sauce is stirred, pizza is cooked properly, etc..
.
I find Little Caesars OK for a $5 pizza, but I would prefer the Domino’s pizza for a dollar more.
Over here in St. Louis my local Dominos has (what I call only assume is) a little ceasar’s fighter “10 slice large” for $4.99… it is good, but I assume it’s a medium crust they stretch out to a rectangle so they can call it 10 slices…
We had a sandwich from them the other day. A could of months ago they were great, and now it seems like they are skimping on the toppings.
I couldn’t agree with your review more, Sir. I usually eat at one of the local places when I’m feeling like pizza but once in a while those aren’t an option (at night on the weekends after having a few beers). Ever since trying Dominos new pizza it’s the go-to if this circumstance ever arises. I have never liked Papa Johns and Pizza Hut around here isn’t anything special.
Dig the review and tend to feel that – of the major chains – Domino’s is now our go-to. To mix it up from the greasy hand feeling that the hand tossed crust gives me, I do appreciate their thin crust every now and then. I also particularly like:
- the online ordering interface (from building the pizza to tracking its progress)
- some of their topping choices (spinach, salami, red peppers and feta all being worthy options)
Totally agree with this review. I moved recently and other than a really crappy local place (I don’t know how they stay in business), the only pizza joint within reasonable driving distance is Domino’s. I don’t like paying the extra for delivery so I always choose take out. I’m not sure that I had ever even eaten Domino’s before moving here, and I was a bit leery to try them originally.
I always ask for extra sauce when ordering online. They’re also one of the few chain restaurants where I can get spinach on my pizza, so that makes me even happier. They also usually have a coupon for free Cinnastix, so I get a good amount of food that will last me 3 or so days for very little money.
I hate and despise Domino’s new crust and after 20 years of being a loyal Domino’s customer I will never have another pizza from them again since I have no desire to eat slimy garlic junk crust.
Domino should had satyed with there old receipts. Domino used be my favorite. I won’t buy it again, I don’t care for it now,the taste is not the same.
