Deal Decoder: Domino’s

Author: WIBIA | Filed under: Deal Decoder

Looking at the blog lately, we have been knocking out reviews and that’s about it.  I forgot about doing some of my favorite segments like Brand v. Generic and this one, Deal Decoder.

Everyone gets coupons like the ones above.  Before ordering, I stare at them for longer than I like to admit.  However, for those moments, it is my sole purpose to make sure that I will find the best deal on the sheet.  Because lets face it, if you are getting Domino’s, I just want something I can call a pizza at a dirt cheap price point.

I am only basing the deal on the amount of the coupon based on the menu price and not the amount of food you are getting or any level of profitability.

Items Menu  Cost Coupon Cost Discount %
2 Medium 2 Topping $21.98 $11.98 45.50%
14 Large 2 Topping $13.59 $5.99 55.92%
3 10 in 2 top + breadsticks    $ 29.46 $14.99 49.12%
Wings and Large Pizza 19.58 $17.99 8.12%
2 Sandwich & Large 1 top 24.27 $19.99 17.63%
16 xlarge 2 top 14.49 $9.99 31.06%

The winner was a 14 inch large with two toppings.  I ordered it and the review will follow (insert cliffhanger music)…

  1. Glad some else’s mind works this way… though IMO you have to factor in the carryout only aspect. sure, you’d otherwise pay a delivery fee, but sometimes I’m not going to be able or interested to pick it up. Cheers. And Domino’s salami FTW.

  3. I would calculate it on cost per square inch of pizza. However, when you throw in things like wings and sandwiches it’s a little tougher. Someone needs to publish a weight by food item list. Then a cost per ounce would be a reasonable comparison measure.

  4. Cheap Lou, I like the way you think. I’d just have to add in that that should take into account the edible food per oz (you don’t eat the bones in chicken wings).
Then you could add in a ‘favorite’ weight to each item so that the things you like better would have a stronger ‘buy’ rating than things that might be the same price but are things you don’t like as much…

  5. I’m glad you brought this back. Always liked it. I wouldn’t always necessarily go with the biggest discount, but it’s good to know what you’re looking at.
