My first review on Gray’s Borther’s was pretty rough and well deserved. If you watched Man v. Food and read my rant, you would easily realize that I am still on my soapbox. This was a lunch meeting with a client and they wanted to go to Gray’s Brothers. I was trapped.
I couldn’t believe the line for this joint. A Wednesday lunch and they were about forty people deep. Keep in mind this is cafeteria food, so it moved quickly.
What I Ate: Chicken and Noodles, Corn, Green Beans; around $8.
Last time I had dark meat chicken, mac and cheese and corn. I kept the corn on the plate as I felt like I needed some veggies to add to my chicken and noodles.
The chicken and noodles should’ve been named noodles and chicken. I would say that it was 85-90% noodles with very little dark meat chicken sprinkled in. However, it tasted pretty damn good. I am not sure if it hit the spot since this warm meal balanced out the six degree winter, but it was pretty tasty. The noodles were homemade and with a little salt and pepper and it was pretty good. There was so much sauce on the plate, I had to eat it with a spoon though. I would appreciate if they didn’t flop everything on the plate because all three sections were trying to get it on with each other.
Green beans had a little bit of bacon in them and the corn wasn’t bad either. Nothing interesting to report here.
Would I Buy It Again? Upgraded from “No Way!” to “Maybe.” The food wasn’t bad, but I walked away wondering why people wait fifteen minutes in line for a weekday lunch. The chicken and noodles needed a lot more chicken in it, but if you are looking for comfort classics to balance out the freezing cold Indiana winter, you can get your fix at Gray Brothers.

If I want cafeteria food I’m just going to go to MCL. Never been disappointed there.
I agree with Brent……..MCL does almost EVERYTHING better than Gray Brothers.
Wow, I have to disagree. I consistently have better meals at Gray’s than at MCL, and I LOVE their chicken and noodles.
No offense, but that plate of food looks gross. Regarding why people might wait 15 minutes for that lunch: A: Location, not a lot around there; B: have you seen most Hoosiers?
MCL does a great job, I would agree with you guys.
@Russ…ha ha…I took a second look at the picture and I agree with you. Not the best looking meal, but the noodles were tasty. I disagree with the location part, the Camby/Mooresville area has a lot of options. There are a few bars and then places like Squeler’s and Zydecos. It could be a lot worse.
As far as the “have you seen most Hoosiers…” I think I know where you are going, but feel free to elaborate.
It’s not just Hoosiers, but there are many people who believe a great meal is one that is plentiful and that they didn’t have to make themselves.
Wow that plate looks absolutely nasty. I’m wondering how salty this meal was since in my experience “comfort” food that looks this cooked to death gets its only flavor from over-salting.
“I would appreciate if they didn’t flop everything on the plate because all three sections were trying to get it on with each other.”
Okay, that line was unexpected and made me literally “lol” at work …
Hey, Russ … check it out: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html#State
But wait, I don’t want facts to get in the way of your awesome argument. So maybe you shouldn’t look.
Just posted my review of Gray Brothers today. Agree with what you have said in the past about the fried chicken and would tend to choose MCL or Mississippi Belle for fried chicken (and the mashed potatoes) any day.

You love triple D as much as I do? Go review Jersey’s Cafe at 136th and meridian. Service is slow, but the food is all fresh and outstanding. The menu is enormous. By far the best Philly cheesesteak in Indy (the IBJ and Indianapolis Monthly agree). Get there before the DDD episode airs in the next month or two and find out why Guy stopped by there. It’s the realness. No I’m not affiliated with the restaurant, just a first time reader who drools over triple D anytime I watch.
