Review: Chick-fil-A Spicy Chicken Biscuit

Much like the last time they debuted a new menu item, Chick-fil-A once again used their reservation system to debut their new breakfast item, the Spicy Chicken Biscuit. Since I love free food and attempt to write for a food blog, I felt it was necessary to go try one out.
What I Got: Spicy Chicken Biscuit; free with reservation. Not sure how much these will go for on the normal menu.
As you can see, this is Chick-fil-A’s spicy chicken patty, albeit a smaller version than the full sandwich size, served on their customary biscuit. Nothing too out of the ordinary and if you like, you can use one of their myriad of sauces to change up the flavor. Since I was going for a “pure” review, I had it with just the patty and the biscuit.
As for the item itself, the chicken tasted just as I would have expected and was the same as my previous review on the spicy chicken sandwich. The chicken was moist and the spice was not powerful, but you could definitely tell it was there. The real drawback to this was the biscuit; it was pathetic and basically re-affirmed all my previous reasons for not liking biscuits. It was dry, flaky and fell apart as I was eating it. After I was done, I could have used a vacuum to suck up all the biscuit pieces that fell all over the front of me.
Would I Buy It Again? Definitely not. While the chicken was flavorful, the biscuit was just pathetic. Like I said, it basically re-affirmed for me all the reasons why I prefer muffins over biscuits when it comes to breakfast.
Plus, spicy chicken and breakfast just don’t seem to match with me. I can deal with spicy foods for breakfast (spicy chorizo, salsa, etc.), but this one is not a combination that I’m a fan of. I applaud Chick-fil-A for the effort to try something new, but it’s just not one that I like and I think there will be many people who agree with me.

I agree with you about not really wanting spicy chicken for breakfast. However, I’m a lover of biscuits. Sometimes the crumbly factor can be one of my favorite things about eating a biscuit. I’ve never had breakfast from Chick-Fil-A. Maybe I’ll have to try it sometime.
Brent, I strongly recommend their breakfast burritos. I think they’re the best in fast food, in both chicken and sausage varieties.
Totally agree with this review. the CFA spicy chik is fantastic but their biscuits simply aren’t sandwich-grade.
The chicken biscuit is more of a southern thing I think. I was born in SC, and people there don’t bat an eyelash to chicken for breakfast. I would like a fried chicken breast RIGHT NOW as a matter of fact.
@Chris
I had no idea they even had breakfast burritos. The only places I knew that had them were McDonald’s and Qdoba…obviously with a huge variance in quality between the two.
Fried chicken and biscuits for breakfast is a southern thing. I live in Durham, NC, and it’s very common.
I think CFA has the best version of biscuits that I’ve found in a chain. The only biscuits I’ve tried that I think are better are the ones from Sunrise Biscuit, a breakfast institution in Chapel Hill.
Before you completely write biscuits off, I wish that you would try one from Hardees. I also tried the CFA spicy chicken biscuit, and I completely agree with you. That CFA biscuit is just not good, but there are good ones out there.
@ Shannon … Hardee’s biscuits are awesome
I agree with the Chick-fil-A biscuit on it’s own… but I recently had one of these at 640am… 10min after my local CFA opened. And the biscuit was 100x better than what I’d get after 9am. I’m not sure if this is a big indicator on the biscuit freshness or what, but for once, it was soft and fluffy on the inside with a not-too-crusty exterior. It didn’t fall apart on me and I was surprised. That said, you can’t expect to enjoy something when your only chance to get it at it’s best is within the first minutes of a restaurant opening. I agree with your review 100%.
