I’ll just come out and say it: I spend more than my fair share of time in bars. Because of this, I eat a lot of fried, disgusting bar food that I don’t always review because I think to myself, “this is just run-of-the-mill bar food and no one cares what it tastes like, so I’m not going to bother to do a review.” So, the fact that I’m doing a review on Britton Tavern kind of spits in the face of that normal mindset, but since they just recently revamped their menu to have slightly more of a culinary twinge to it (I previously considered them to be just plain, old bar food), I figured a review was in order.
Also, as a quick note, I’ve long had “rules” that I live by when it comes to bar food on what not to order. Those rules include: no wraps, no salads and no seafood. I won’t go into further explanation, but these rules apply under all circumstances unless a place is known for of these items being particularly good. On my recent visit to Britton Tavern, I was again spitting in the face of my mindset when I ordered (and given a dirty look by one of my friends who knows my rules)…
What I Got: Chipotle Grilled Chicken ‘N Bacon Wrap, $8.49. Served with a side item where choices could include chips, fries, tater tots, etc. As you can see in the picture, I chose ketchup-soaked tater tots.
The wrap is served with chicken (grilled or breaded), Applewood Smoked Bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese all inside a tomato basil tortilla. For appearance’s sake, I can confirm that all these things were in there.
As far as taste was concerned, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was. The chicken was tender and flavorful, the produce seemed fresh and crunch and the Chipotle Ranch dressing added a nice kick to all the components involved. Frankly, I was not disappointed with this wrap and that was a genuine surprise to me. It was a nice size too, so all in all, this was a good meal.
Would I Buy It Again? Really the question here is if I would spit in the face of my bar food rules again and the answer to that one is yes, I would buy it again. The price was not bad, the wrap was good and it was also filling. Like I said earlier, I was pleasantly surprised by everything.
If I had to lodge minor complaint/provide one suggestion and yes, I understand this is a wrap, so it is often cold by nature: I would serve this wrap warm so that the cheese was melted a touch. The clump of cold shredded, thus hard, cheese really did nothing for me. If you mix some melted cheese in with all these ingredients, you take a wrap that is good and make it even better.
