O’Charley’s
http://www.ocharleys.com/

I’ve had a $15.00 gift certificate to O’Charley’s for about the last four years.  I got it because I went there and it sucked so bad that I wrote a letter and they sent me this back.  Plus, I had a $5.00 off coupon, so I knew that I could get a $20 meal for next to nothing.

What I Ate: Philly Burger; $9.79.

This was a nice sized patty that included roast beef, crispy onion strings, swiss, tomato, lettuce and cajun horseradish sauce.  This burger had to be around 1,000 calories, but I am not really sure.  I actually liked parts of this burger. T he patty itself was cooked well, I liked the cajun horseradish sauce, but the roast beef and onion strings were useless.

The fries were nothing special.   You have had these at every other fast food place.

Would I Buy It Again?  For $9.79, No. There was just too much going on here.   Would I have reservations getting a burger form O’Charley’s, nope.   It was better than I thought that it would be, but there is a lot of competition and I am not sure that I found anything that I will run back for.

  1. Awww, I like O’Charley’s! :P I’ve never had the Philly Burger, though.

I’ve had the cedar-planked salmon, the chicken tenders, tomato bisque, and I can’t remember what else. But I’ve liked every meal I’ve had there.

  2. I don’t believe I’ve ever been to O’Charley’s unless I was eating with coworkers or had a gift card… the only truly positive part of the experience I’ve taken away – baskets of bread. As I like bread greatly. And the honey mustard that came with the chicken fingers was pretty solid.
There’s no sound logic to it – but for some reason sliced/roasted beef on a burger is unappealing to me (have felt this way since Hardee’s came out with a similar burger). I suppose it is not different than bacon on top of a patty – but maybe that it is two forms of beef together is what gets me? IDK.

  3. @tom h: Could not agree more about the bread. It is outstanding and truly the best part about O’Charley’s, which isn’t a bad place. It’s just a normal chain restaurant.

  4. I went to the O’Charley’s in Noblesville a few weeks ago with my girlfriend, and I have to say it was a pretty miserable dining experience. I was early evening on a weekday so the restaurant was not busy, but the server disappeared for long stretches and failed to refill our bread or drinks. I got the wrong toppings on my burger as well. I also had heard a lot about the rolls, but I was not impressed. The ones at Texas Roadhouse are much better in my opinon. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but there are enough other restaurants to never go back.

  5. I am not a huge fan of O’Charley’s. It isn’t the worst place in the world but considering the similar options we have in my city (Cheddar’s, Applebee’s, etc), it really does nothing for me and is usually more expensive than it should be.

  6. oh the bread! I haven’t been for about 10 years but back then the wings were so good (go figure.)

  7. Enough with the fried onions on sandwiches already. It’s seriously getting ridiculous.

And how is that “Philly?” Absurd.

Leave the fried onions as onion rings on the side. So sick of everyone feeling the need to slather them on burgers and/or sandwiches. It rarely, if ever, works.

  9. i aggree with Show. it is like pizza. sometimes, plain is better.where I live the resturaunts like applees, ruby tuesdays, fatz, o charley’s , shoney’s etc all want to add… you name it. some times I just like a chesse burger with ltm. not a double bacon swiss mushroom barbeque southwest roast beef burger. but I like o charleys in asheville. they have good salads and blue chesse dressing.

  11. Agree with Show… as a life-long Philly resident, I laughed at that description. Swiss cheese? Did they learn nothing from the John Kerry incident?

  13. I ate at the one in Alabaster, Al. The food was good but the service was awful. To start it was late in the evening and for a table of two we had to wait about 10 min. That would have been ok if they were busy but they were not. Then we had to get our own silverware. I would NOT go there!
