Review: McDonald’s Wild Berry Real Fruit Smoothie
Author: indianapoliseater | Filed under: Food ReviewsRecently, McDonald’s debuted a new item in their quest to be a source for premium drinks using their McCafe line. In this case, it is a line of fruit smoothies proclaiming to use real fruit. These smoothies come with two flavor options: Wild Berry and Strawberry Banana. Yesterday, it was hot and humid, so I decided to go give one a shot.
What I Got: Small Wild Berry Fruit Smoothie $2.29
In this Wild Berry smoothie, you are getting a blend of strawberries, blackberries and blueberries along with low fat yogurt. They take both of these mixtures, combine them with ice and then blend it all together to give you your smoothie.
As far as taste was concerned, it was pretty good. It really did taste fruity and as if they were using fresh fruit (although I’m 75% confident they weren’t), but one fruit did not really dominate in taste over the others. It was just a blend as the name of the drink would imply. Its consistency had a bit too many ice chunks in it, but had I given it a minute to melt instead of inhaling it in about eleven seconds after I got it (taking the picture took up six of those seconds and the remaining five were inhaling it), those ice chunks may have been dissolved a little bit more.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes, I would. It was cold and refreshing and like I said, it really did taste as if I was drinking something fresh. Plus, when you look at the calorie count (210 calories), it’s really not that bad for you either.
It’s a bit more than I would like to spend for a “drink”, but because of its consistency, I would almost consider this a substitute for a milkshake. And when you consider the calorie comparisons of 210 calories for a smoothie and 560 for a comparable strawberry shake, you really are getting a healthier option and that’s never a bad thing. Because of these savings, I might make this smoothie my preferred treat.
As for other assessments of these smoothies (they find the smoothies to be mediocre, unlike me), check out Grub Grade and The Impulsive Buy.

I was given one of these for free when I went through the drive through, and it was extremely sour. I ended up not drinking it. I left it out on the counter, and the next day it separated into a 2 inch top layer that was hard as a rock (i had to almost pry it out of the cup), and a 3 inch bottom layer that was like jello/syrup. Never again.
My husband tried the strawberry banana version of this smoothie and raved about it. I’m not much of a smoothie person so I didn’t try it, but his reaction was impressive.
The other day I cooked up some ground beef and there was this weird liquid that separated from it. I drained it into a cup. I checked the next day and it had hardened into a white solid! So weird …
NEVER AGAIN!
I had the Strawberry Banana on a March day in Utah. Timing, they say, is everything. I’d think I’d like it now that I’m dying in 100 degree heat days here on the east coast for the summer lol. Nice review IE!
I liked the small strawberry banana smoothie very much. It was large enough to be very satisfying. The flavor was authentic and I purchased it because I did not want something high in calories and fat. It really hit the spot during this heat wave. I think McDonald’s has gotten it right here. It was very affordable. I haven’t purchased McDonald’s food for myself often over the last 15 years or so–just their salads. I would purchase another smoothie–perhaps very soon. Congrats McDonald’s. I had it for a snack and not with a meal.
lol @ Show’s comment!
As far as the price goes, you can go to McDonald’s website and get a dollar-off coupon on any size fruit smoothie.
I LOVE the wild Berry one! I would rather have that then FRIES! (Better for me, too). Great taste, just right!
Had a free wild berry smoothie. Love the flavor. Will be a “must have” over anything else for a drink when I’m out and am thirsty. I don’t drink soda and juices are not good thirst quincher’s but the smoothie “hit the spot”.
Had a free wild berry smoothie today. I agree with Kathy, it will be a “must have” over other drinks. I sipped it to the last drop. YUM!!!
I tried the MIxed Berry today cuz it was really hot and I had a free coupon for 1 from a magazine and i thot it tasted like cough syrup, I didn’t want to waste it, but I ended up having to throw it away after I got 1/2 way.
You shouldn’t be looking at the calorie count. These are made with GMO fruits which means that this is extremely bad for you.
