Poll: “Umm…I will take the smaller size.”

I was at Burger King (fancy brick one) and saw this sign in the drive thru. I laughed thinking…who would order the 16 oz when you can get the 22 oz for the same price!? I mentioned this theory when I got back to work and a few people said, “well, if I get any size coffee at McDonald’s, I usually get a medium.” Really?
I am not a wasteful person so I tend to conserve, but I would max out this Icee deal no problem. People eat more at buffets (generally), so that mentality is there. Let’s finalize the score here.

A while ago I was at the McDonald’s drive thru where all beverages are $1, the extremely large drink I was being handed was much more than I had ordered or was going to drink. I pointed out this was not the size I ordered and was told, “It’s OK, they are all the same price.” For me to drink 32 oz of soda will take from 4 to 6 hours. I don’t want to be drinking one beverage that long and I don’t see the point in ordering more than I know I will consume in a reasonable amount of time.
Speedway has the same thing going on, any size drink or frozen drink for $.89. So…I’m going with the 44oz Mountain Dew frozen everytime. They also have bags of Combos 2 for $1.00. I need to stop everyday now
@Tim: FYI, it’s actually cheaper at Circle K (if you are in the Indianapolis area) where they have any size drink for 69 cents! Save yourself a few nickels and over the long run, you can buy some extra Combos. LOL.
These type of choices are ridiculous. I’ve never understood why more people don’t smoke 100s when they are the same price as regular smokes. You get like 20% more cig for free.
I hit Mcdonald’s at least a couple of times on the weekend. I dont see a point in getting anything other than a large. It makes zero sense to pay the same price and get something less. If it anything, it is about the principle.
It makes me sad that people don’t get the most for their money. I can’t fathom the lack of brainpower that goes into the “thought” process to get the smaller size.
Also, tell the “Waste” crowd they’d be helping the economy — in a very small way — to get the bigger size. The restaurant still makes a profit, but if you buy more product they run out sooner and need to purchase more sooner.
I would say the difference is do you need all that extra sugar and calories? Bigger isn’t always better. Americans need to think less about money waste and more about their actual waist when making food choices. A sugary treat may be nice occasionally but do we always have to have the biggest one available?
@Linda: To a regular soda or an Icee-type drink, I would agree. But when you are drinking a diet soda, that argument loses water.
If it were a diet soda or ice tea I would get the largest size but an Icee is a fattening treat so I would get the smaller one if I was craving one. No fun to watch what you consume, you miss out on good deals!
In NJ our McD’s won’t sell the kid size milkshakes, smallest you can get is what they call small. Doesn’t make sense. I treat myself to a milkshake everynow and then and if I can’t get the cashier to sell me a kid size I make sure I throw out some so I don’t get the extra calories. It’s a waste of product and money (not that it applies here).
I was looking forward to the $1 Icee all day at work but when I got to Burger King the Icee machine was broken! What?! They just started that dollar price and it’s broken?! I was sad. Anyway, I get the biggest size but the dollar menu makes me realize that the smallest size is all I really need.
I usually only get a large drink at mcd’s if I’m really thirsty, why get a big and throw it out? I drink wayyyy too much soda anyways.
bigger is not always better. like buy one get one free. sometimes, I dont want two quarter pounders or two sasage mcmuffins, ( not to pick on mickey dees) or whatever , we like to order what we want. or a 42 oz drink at the movie theater along with a gallon of popcorn somtimes, if going out to dine later, two 12 oz drinks and a little bag of popcorn is all you want.. I dont want, nor need the jumbo size of everything. and yes I do smoke ciggarettes. and get the 100 s. but not five at a time Ive been known to eat a 16 oz cut of prime rib. and 3 ears of corn, or a quart of ice cream. but not every day. they make the sodas so big, they wont even fit in the cup holders in cars. a drive through…sorry, medium is the smallest we got… I dont want a quart or liter of soda… oh and the icce machines… they are not broken or out.. my guess is like most places, the frozen machines are a pain to clean, and getting paid 7 bucks an hour, the staff forgets about it.
there is a simple way to avoid all this. bring some water from home in the size you like. in bottles. we like seltzer and fruit juice mixed. and go to a dollar store for the candy and smuggle it in. keep water bottles in the car, and order off the dollar menu. avoid “combo meals” . that 22 or 32 oz drink for a dollar or two? the most expensive thing is the cup and lid. about .07. then some syrup and carbonated water. about .05 .12 cents and you just paid two bucks..
When we stopping by for a really quick meal, I decided to order it with a meal. There never mention a size, so I thought we’ll get the bigger one. We also ordered one seperated, Nope. They gave us 16 OZ, come on Burger King, you’re known for giving large food portions (well more like you say so yourselves) We we scammed out.
