Review: Hardee’s Loaded Biscuits ‘N’ Gravy

What I Got:  Hardee’s Load Biscuit ‘N’ Gravy $2.99

Anyone that reads the blog regularly knows that I love Hardee’s and I am always anxious to try out their newest menu item.  Even though I love Hardee’s, I did not have high expectations that fast food Biscuits ‘N’ Gravy would hit the spot for me.  After all, what can possibly compare with Grandma’s Biscuits ‘N’ Gravy?

Just like regular Hardee’s biscuits, mine were still fresh and fluffy even under all the gravy.  Certainly one of my favorite fast food biscuits.  The sausage seemed like the standard fast food patty, so no complaints here.  On top of the sausage was a very thin folded over egg and finally topped by the sausage gravy that was a bit too thin and runny for my preference.

Although I enjoyed the taste, the egg was so thin that it seemed inconsequential as I could not taste it.  When looking at all of the other great menu items at Hardee’s, this one really packs a punch on the nutrition side coming in at 1000 calories(670 fat) and 2350 mg sodium.  Wow!

Would I Buy It Again?  No.  Personally, the poor nutrition on this outweighs the enjoyment I got from the taste of this new menu item.  I will continue to go to Hardee’s, but will stick with either the Monster Biscuit (770 calories) or the Loaded Omelet Biscuit (610 calories and only 1540mg of sodium).  Both offer better taste for a lot less calories and fat.

  1. I had their bacon egg and cheese biscuit last week and it was awesome. Regardless of a few misses, Hardee’s has the best breakfast by far.

  3. @wibia: I think there would be many people that would argue with you that McDonald’s is better. Since I haven’t had both though, I can’t offer an opinion. I suck.

  4. Wow. As is often the case, it sure looked a lot better in the ad than it did in the real-life picture! That gravy looks way too thin. I do love Hardee’s, but I’ll probably stick to eating my biscuits and gravy at the mom-and-pop diners.

  5. Don’t think I’ve ever had biscuits n’gravy with eggs?
Haven’t been to Hardee’s in forever- but remember they have good coffee and those cinnamon biscuits…

Why don’t you guys make some homemade biscuits and gravy and post it on the site?

  7. @Indianapolis Amy: Never been a big biscuits and gravy guy (well, at least never a big biscuits guy, but I do love the gravy), so I know that post won’t come with me. I know that EatHSE and wibia love them/it though, so I second that challenge to them!

  8. The picture in the ad looks great to me. The picture of the actual food, not so much.

I think Jason nailed it when he said that the gravy looks way too thin.

I don’t eat heavy foods for breakfast often, but if I’m at a brunch I definitely go for biscuits and sausage gravy. IMO, made right it, it belongs in the Comfort Food Hall of Fame.

  9. The discrepancy between the ad “picture” and the real thing is quite saddening. I have to say, I love the idea so much, though, I still might give it a try and see if EatHSE just got screwed on his order.

  10. Hardee’s is still my favorite choice for breakfast. Don’t let one picture of an item that did not compare to the advertised picture keep you away.

  11. I had this on Sunday after finally giving in. It’s not that it didn’t look good, it looked yummy, but I was a bit afraid of the calories. I can see from the review I was right in that assumption.

I am a Hardee’s fan for breakfast, I love the biscuits. I am a bread fan anyway, and they have the best IMO(for fast food). I was sadly let down by the runny gravy though. Everything had a good flavor for a fast food place, but the eggs were pretty bland and I like a bit thicker gravy with substance. It’s been awhile since I had it there and can’t remember if it is usually like that or not. I think I will stick to my loaded omelet biscuit, I almost never go wrong. I will save my biscuit and gravy craving for Cracker Barrel..yummm.

  13. the egg would be better if off to she side, or in the garbage ..but i love the b and g …macdonalds is slightly better though

  15. hardee’s does have a good breakfast, it’d be better if their gravy was thicker, mcdonald’s always makes me feel bad afterwards, theres a fast food place called jack’s that has some really good breakfast, especially biscuits and gravy, but its only in parts of the south

  16. Tasty but I only ate half off it after reading the calorie and sodium content. I should have stuck with the usual 2 bacon, egg and cheese biscuits for $3.33!

  17. Forget about biscuit and gravy from Cracker Barrel…Hardee’s has the best…if you only eat Hardee’s Loaded Biscuits ‘N’ Gravy once a week like I do…why should you care about the calorie and sodium content…….
