Giveaway: Indy’s Got the Best Biscuits

Author: WIBIA | Filed under: Announcements/News

Hardee’s is a glutton for punishment at times.  We have been pretty critical lately, but they keep sending us stuff to give away and I am not going to turn away free food for my readers.

I find myself eating less and less fast food, however Hardee’s has the best Chicken Sandwich in the fast food industry, the Big Chicken Filet and their biscuits are so much better than the competitors, it is not even close.

Our Hardee’s rep sent me this article about a biscuit contest they have and I got a kick out of it and I had to post.   In honor of Lisa Smith’s win, you can win.12 FREE BISCUITS!!  The first five to name your favorite Hardee’s menu item win.

Email me your address if you are in the top five.

Congrats Lisa Smith (pic below) for winning the contest and representing Central Indiana.

Get excited! It’s official. Indy has the best biscuits in the nation… thanks to the mad skills of one Lisa Smith, Greenfield, IN. Lisa recently turned up the kitchen heat and beat out over 1,900 bakers to be crowned the 2010 Hardee’s Biscuit Baker Challenge national champion.

The restaurant biscuit baker is a highly esteemed position and Hardee’s is always on the lookout for new talent – awarding those who rise above the rest. That’s why over the past several months, Hardee’s has hosted regional biscuit bake-offs across the country in search for the “Best Made from Scratch Biscuit Baker” in America

Lisa Smith baked her way to the top, beating over 1,900 of the best bakers in the country to win

Hardee’s 2010 Biscuit Baker Challenge

ST. LOUIS – May 14, 2010 – Who bakes the best Hardee’s® Made from Scratch™ Biscuits in America? Lisa Smith of the Hardee’s in Greenfield, Ind.  Lisa turned up the kitchen heat and beat out over 1,900 bakers to win the 2010 Hardee’s Biscuit Baker ChallengeSM, an internal competition where Hardee’s seeks to find and honor their best biscuit baker. The 5 bakers with the highest scores competed in the final round of the competition, held on May 12 at Hardee’s headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.

Lisa Smith competed in the Biscuit Baker Challenge along with Lee Damien of Virginia Beach, Va., Sherry Schwabe of Waldo, Fla., Angela Perazza of St. Mary’s, Ga., and Elvia Arroyo of Des Moines, Iowa.

Biscuit bakers were judged on their knowledge of Hardee’s biscuit procedures and standards as well as on their ability to prepare and bake a batch of Made from Scratch biscuits to performance standards and expectations. Baked biscuits were evaluated and judged on appearance, height, weight, diameter, texture, color and, of course, taste.

“Lisa is a highly skilled biscuit baker and proved to us all that she knows how to make the best biscuits,” said Bob Starke, executive vice president of operations for Hardee’s Food Systems, Inc. “With the best-of-the-best competing, the competition was intense and very close between all of the bakers. Though Lisa came out on top, all of the finalists did a fantastic job during the challenge and we are very proud of each and every one of them.”

Hardee’s signature Made from Scratch biscuits have been helping folks of all ages rise and shine for over 30 years. The world has changed a lot since the mid-1970s, but not Hardee’s biscuits. They are still made fresh daily by dedicated biscuit bakers who arrive to work in the early morning hours to prepare and roll the dough by hand, and bake the biscuits to their signature fluffy texture and golden-brown color.

  11. Who remembers the commercial from the 80′s when Hardee’s sold fried chicken. The kid says “Hardee’s chicken’s RIPPIN!”. Hardee’s was the only fast food in our town growing up. Needless to say I had the full Mini Pound Puppy collection, and all of the Shirt Tails.

  12. @Katy: I totally forgot about the mini Pound Puppies… I had them all too! AND my dad stocked away all of the California Raisins figures; fairly certain I still have the whole collection. Funny!
