Home Run Inn Pizza

Home Run Inn Pizza
Website

Home Run Inn Pizza is a Chicago area chain with nine locations.  Although I look forward to trying their pizza in person at one of their locations next time I visit Chicago, I am reviewing their frozen pizzas in this review.  Home Run Inn Pizza can be difficult to find in Indiana.  According to Home Run Inn’s website, it is available at Costco, Sam’s Club, Meijer, Marsh and Wal-Mart, yet I have found the pizza to not be in stock consistently at all locations.  Despite this, the Home Run Inn web site has a locator for every state to help you find their pizza in your local grocery store.

What I Got: Home Run Inn Signature Meat Lovers Pizza (Large) $5.50

This large comes with sausage, bacon, ham and pepperoni and a fairly equal portion of all toppings.  Unlike most frozen pizzas where all the toppings shift to one side of the box during shipping, the toppings are secured and distributed evenly across this pizza so you are able to pull it out of the box and throw it in the oven.  The crust on this pizza stands out among all of the frozen pizza competition.  It is thin with a fresh crunch and not the doughy/sticky kind that sticks to the roof of your mouth like you get on cheaper frozen pizzas.  It includes a nice ring around the outside keeping all the toppings on the pizza and giving you something that is easy to hold onto while you eat your pizza.  Baking time is a few minutes longer than your average frozen pizza but amazing crust that is the result makes it worth the wait.

Would I Buy it Again? Absolutely 100% yes! The quality of this pizza stands out among its frozen peers.  I actually am willing to drive to multiple grocery stores to find this pizza.  Sometimes you see commercials on television advertising that their pizza is just like having pizza delivered to your house.  This is actually true for Home Run Inn pizza and Friday night at my house has become Home Run Inn pizza night for dinner.  You will not regret the extra cost and time it takes to find this pizza and you may save a lot of money instead of going out for more expensive pizza.

  1. Wow, I didn’t expect a positive review when I saw this article! I tried a Home Run Inn frozen pizza once, and I thought it was terrible! Maybe I got a bad one…

  2. I actually went looking for this at Meijer last night and no dice. I guess I’ll have to try Marsh next.

  3. fyi I’ve also had luck at super target… almost always at Marsh, but their prices can run a bit high.

  4. Makes me wonder what part of Indiana you live in. If you think it’s worth driving around to find a FROZEN Home Run Inn pizza, I think you would find it definitely worth a drive to Chicago to have a fresh one baked and served hot to your table. By far my favorite Chicago pizza. I live near South Bend, IN. I took a friend from here to HRI when we were in Chicago once, and he has now made the trip 3 times specifically for the pizza. Frozen is good, but doesn’t begin to compare to fresh.

  5. I grew up in NW Indiana, and therefore, grew up with Home Run Inn Pizza. It’s the best – especially straight out of the fridge the next morning! My mom is notorious for stocking several of these in the freezer before holidays, because we all pop them in the oven at all times of the day and night.

I see them at Marsh on the North side quite often. It’s worth it. :)

    Thanks for reviewing!

  6. I like the pic with the pizza on the piz stone. Never tried this- but see it at Marsh & O’Malias.

  7. Wow! That looks pretty good especially for frozen pizza. I’ve never seen it in anywhere out here in California though =(

  8. That definitely does not look like frozen pizza. I’ll be looking for it on my next trip to the store. Thanks for the heads-up, EatHSE.

  9. Condimentality says:
  10. They have them at Saraga, believe it or not.

  11. Another item of note on these pizzas – the next time you’re in the store, pick up a cheese one and read the ingredients. There’s like maybe five or six ingredients. Compare that to any other frozen cheese pizza, and you’ll at least triple that number. That’s why we started buying these – we had a sample at Costco, enjoyed it, and when I checked the label I was shocked to see I actually knew what all of the ingredients were. That alone is worth something but yes, it actually tastes remarkably well for a frozen pie.

  12. Great tip! I actually had the cheese pizza this past weekend (my first Home Run experience ever) and it was very good. Now that I’ve eaten this, I would definitely recommend this pizza to others and am curious to see some of the other varieties that are available.

  13. Finding Home Run Inn pizza’s in Central Indiana is difficult. Costco only carries the plain cheese and the manager at the Castleton location was unresponsive for my request that Costco get other varieties.

However, the good news is my wife ran across many other varieties at the SuperTarget in Fishers and I am assuming you can get them at other area SuperTargets

  14. Indianapolis Eater says:
  15. Marsh has them as well. Although, much like everything at Marsh, they are severely overpriced and go for like $8.

  16. I just bought a plain cheese Home Run Inn Pizza in New Jersey at the A&P. I’ve seen a lot of good reviews for this pizza and I was amazed to find one.

I have to say though I wasn’t iimpressed. The sauce looked like tiny little red dots and I thought ok maybe it will expand as it bakes. The taste was far from some of the other frozen pizzas I’ve had. I’m writing this review in 2011 so maybe something has changed.

I can’t believe all these reviewer’s don’t no good pizza so I can only assume that something changed with the pizza in the last year.

  17. I have never had the plain cheese pizza. The one in the picture is of their “Meat Lovers” type. The quality of the meat o this pizza is much higher than those of other frozen pizzas. I keep getting Home Run and have not see any change in the last year.

  18. I agree 100%. Been eating frozen pizza for 40+ years. This is the best frozen pizza I’ve ever eaten. The toppings are so good and thick that I eat too much when I buy one. Sometimes, I buy another brand’s thin crust just so I won’t be such a pig.
