Pulled Pork Sandwich

What I Got:  Pulled Pork Sandwich $5.95; served with chips and Bar-B-Que baked beans as a side (side options included baked beans, cole slaw or potato salad).

It was time for lunch and my brother loves this place, so we decided to go.  Squealer’s has two area locations (one in Mooresville and one in Indianapolis) and we visited the aforementioned Indianapolis location.  Before I dive into my review, I would be remiss to point out that I’ve been to this place several times and I’ve been less than impressed with each visit and always just found the place to be just kind of ordinary.  That being said, Squealer’s really changed my mind with this visit.

Their pulled pork sandwich comes on a sesame seed bun the bun was dry and flaky, so that was a drawback of the meal.  They give you the option of having your sandwich served wet (sauce mixed in with the pork) or dry (sauce on the side).  Their barbecue sauce options include their own homemade Smokin’ Hot or Smokey Sweet sauces (available for purchase through their website); I chose a combination of the two with the sandwich served wet and also on the side.  Also served on the side were sliced pickles and onions.   The sauce was mixed in with my pulled pork, but when I eat barbecue, I like the sauce to be dripping from my sandwich, thus the order of the additional side of sauce.

Taste-wise, the meat was perfectly smoked and tender.  As you can see from the picture, they certainly don’t skimp on the amount of pork that they give you as well, so that was a nice bonus.

In addition to a delicious sandwich, you also get an order of Bar-B-Que baked beans and these aren’t like the ordinary beans that you would find out of the can.  Their version of beans includes chopped green peppers, onions and some pulled pork thrown in as the meat component.  I can honestly say that these were delicious, although for my taste, they could have used a touch more brown sugar to sweeten them up a bit.

Would I Buy It Again?  Yes, I would.  This sandwich and the baked beans were both delicious and filling.  When you add in the fact that it seemed like I got a truckload of food for $5.95, you really have a winner here.  On the menu, it said that this pulled pork sandwich was “Award Winning” and I can certainly see why as this sandwich alone could end up changing my opinion of Squealer’s.  Hopefully next time I visit, they can have a fresher bun and then this thing would go from delicious to awesome.

  1. I like Squealers as well and this is a good reminder that I haven’t been there in a while. One of the better independently owned BBQ places in Indy.

  2. Yummy. Their wings are outstanding too. So are the BBQ Nachos.

  3. I have seen a lot of photos on this website and this is the first time a picture has made me hungry. Looks great!

  4. If it has taken this long for a picture to make you hungry, then you have the strongest stomach of anyone that I’ve ever met. Just about every picture we put on this site makes me hungry.

  5. You should try their Brunswick stew next time you’re there, it’s terrific. My boyfriend also loves their fried biscuits with apple butter and their blackberry cobbler when it’s in rotation.

  6. I have to agree – there are a lot of pics’ that make me hungry too, hee – but usually because I am reading in the middle of the night and nothing is open.

That bbq looks great – I love bbq but I am just a dollop of sauce girl with coleslaw on top. Probably because I am from VA. :) But I would definitely eat this. Yum!

  7. humm… but i agree with skippy mom… I grew up on eastern style NC barbeque but its kind of dry.. heresy, I know. But give me a sammich of that with a dollop of real cole slaw ( just ground cabbage, mayo ( gotta be Dukes or jfg)and just a touuch of sweet pickle . Then add some texas pete ( wait a min… thought we were talking about NC or Va) don’t get much better than that. well, maybe some peach cobler or nanner pudinging..any ways, hope you are well.

    0 and a little red sauce…

  8. you got a good deal for 5.95… even for down here, where every one thinks their ‘que is the best, bar none. about 9 bucks. of course, that comes with tea. would I buy it again? hell yeh, and that goes for your website also…

  9. I agree. The BBQ Nachos are outstanding. Brisket is the best around. And can’t forget the fried biscuits & apple butter…a nice compliment to the meal.
