Based on the frequency of Hardee’s posts, you would think that we are on the Hardee’s payroll, but we are not. I promise.
Hardee’s was having a mix and match deal with 2 items for $3.00. I decided to choose the chili dog as one of them. I love a great chili dog during the summer at a drive in with some root beer.
Not really sure how to “review” this. It is a fast food hot dog and it was as good as I expected…and I didn’t expect much. The chili was good, but the hot dog needed to be fresher. the hot dog had mustard on it….and I am really not in love with the mustard chili combo. I am not sure how they prepare them, but I have a good feeling it could be microwave…Hardee’s, please correct me if I am wrong.
Would I Buy It Again? No. It was edible and cheap, but go with a chicken sandwich or Thickburger here.

Although not a winner here…I still think hot dogs are under utilized in the quickserve industry. Especially the larger chains. Good to see Hardees at least has it on the menu.
I like the fact that Hardees has hot dogs. But I hate their chili. It has a spicy taste that seems “off”. I like spicy chili, but this just tasted bad to me. WIBIA, you said you liked their chili. Did yours have a spicy taste?
@ cress. The chili wasn’t spicy at all. It was a good “hot dog chili,” meaning…. I wouldn’t eat a bowl of it, but on top of a dog, it wasn’t bad. what I liked about it was that the meat was fine grind. I hate when there are beans on a hot dog chili or chunky pieces of meat.
@ryan. Agree with you. A cost basis of about $.15 cents and selling it for $1.00-$1.50, this is probably one of the more profitable items a fast food menu could have. I just wish they were better. McDonalds promo-ed Johnsville Brats a while back, too expensive, big flop.
Interesting. Maybe it is a different version where I’m at. Mine definitely had heat.
First fast food hot dog I ever had was on a road trip to NC when I was a teenager, at Hardees. I couldn’t believe a chain like Hardees would sell hot dogs.
Reading you review they were definitely waaaay better back when [oh, lo those many years ago
]
And I am with you on the chili on top – no big chunks or beans – that is for the bowl.
Hardee’s is one of my favorites but they say on the blog because they stay fresh with new items all the time. I have another Hardee’s breakfast review coming up.
