Review: Bojangle's Cajun Fillet Biscuit

Author: WIBIA | Filed under: Food Reviews

I was in Greenville, NC on biz and had the opportunity to grab breakfast without the client that I was traveling with.   When in south, I think chicken and biscuits for breakfast.  I had about 15 minutes to eat and I saw a Bojangles, so I decided to give it a try.

Started in 1977, Bojangles does the cajun chicken thing.  Think Popeyes. Normal fast food ordering system, a few combos, sides, etc.   Right at the counter, there was a tray that had tater rounds and some fruit sticky bun type items.  I was thinking that I was not sure how fresh the taters were.  Honestly, I don’t like to see my fast food before it hits my tray.

What I Got:  Cajun fillet biscuit combo.  About $4.00.

As far as taste, there were some cajun spices on the chicken breast, more than you would find at McDonald’s, however it didn’t have a lot of punch.  I found the chicken fillet to be a little salty as well.  My biggest complaint is that the fillet was really thin and dry.

The biscuit was pretty standard fast food.  Not even close to the king of morning fast food biscuits: Hardee’s.  Combine a dry biscuit with a dry fillet and the result was pretty dismal.

As you can see in the picture, you only get four tater rounds as a side.  There were very average and not even worth me talking about.

Would I Buy It Again:  No. Maybe I caught them at a bad time and one would only assume with this being regional fast food that they have a pretty solid following, but after this meal, I can’t imagine why.

Also, they had Christian music playing.  I just can’t listen to that at 6:00 am…actually ever.

  1. That looks dry – I am not a fan of FF biscuits – but I like the stacking of the taters – love me some tots.

  2. DEATH TO DRY BISCUITS!!!

  3. Ohhhh, darn. I LOVE me some Bojangles! But I have to say, the whole fried chicken w/ biscuit thing is usually dry to me, in general (no matter where I get it.) Their cajun filet sandwich is MUCH better (tomato, mayo, lettuce, etc.). In fact, I might just go to lunch there today! Mmm… sorry yours sucked.

And next time ask them to put some of their french fry seasoning on your bo-rounds (tater tots). Seriously, I think it has crack in it, as I can’t get enough. Then again, I have a very unhealthly love affair with salt.

  4. Amen to the X-Mas music! Heard the same thing at my favorite diner in Elkhart, Indiana this morning…

At least the Biscuits-n-Gravy were good at The Cock-a-Doodle Cafe!

  5. I was going to say yesterday that someone commented on Bojangles and I had never heard of them. I know that you didn’t get breakfast food, but Hardees biscuits look better.

More importantly, were you too tired to write the entire word “business?”

  6. dry biscuit + dry chicken fillet= choking incident.

I used to love their dirty rice.

  7. Thanks for the memories, Andrew. I’m from Elkhart originally and have not been to Cock-a-Doodle in ages. Although I was at Sunrise over Thanksgiving weekend.

  8. Dammnn… You were in Greenville? cool. my school in 1982… Pirate country. ECU… now let me say this about bojangles in NC or SC. or Hardess, they are either very good or very bad. somtimes i get the cajun sandwich, lettuce, tomato and extra mayo, and it is great but at every store i have eaten, their biscuits, well…suck. could use them for hockey pucks. BK is not even relevant to breakfast, to me, but my all time favorite is a whopper with cheese. hey, i dont make these names up, ok. I hate to say this, but mikey d has the best biscuit to my taste. consistent onthe east coast. and ok coffee and clean restrooms, but I usually order an egg Mcmuffin, so count me out…maybe.. but hardees has the best gravy at breakfast… kind of like waffle house… or shoneys…

  9. I’m sorry sir did not mean to … this is your website… but if you are ever driving down i-40 then pick up 264 to 64 in wilson nc there is this great place…

  10. We agree on all points here Tom. Greenville for just one night, went to Boli’s for pizza, good stuff actually.

  11. Hardees is the king of all biscuits? HHHHAAAAA! That is funny.

  12. First of all, you ate a Cajun Filet Biscuit. They suck. The chicken patty is dry and boring. Probably the worst biscuit sandwich on their menu. But their sausage and egg, country ham and egg, bacon and egg..almost anything but their chicken biscuit is better. And their Bo’Berrys are good too. I know, I know..”But they specialize in chicken, why does their chicken biscuit suck?” Beats me. It just does. And I’m sorry you got a dry biscuit. But like all places, you sometimes get a flaky, moist biscuit and sometimes you get a dry sandturd(including Hardees). You should give it another try in the future. Even though you probably won’t. :)

  13. First of all, you ate a Cajun Filet Biscuit well no, i did not and the bun was ok. I thought evrey thing was as ok. but was bojangles was ok.pretty good , in fact,i like bojangles and dirty rice, and they give a very generous portion of real counrty ham. all i meant was too much bread, and not enogh meat. cause thats what we come for…. pancakes, I, can get at home… kind of like red lobster. gift cards… which is very enticing, if you live like we do, now. 350 miles from the coast….. now Ive done it… well, bay scallops are nice… but I woud not eat them nor them oysters, those ….are nice… but long ago you could cut them from skatt rab aint that great… well, suck your thumb,,, what ever you dont’ have, is what you want. sucker born every minite, cept for me…

  14. tom r..I was responding to WIBIA.

And WOW! I don’t know where to respond on your last post. Lay off the nitrous before responding next time.

  15. Re….SpoNNddddd..iinnggg….

  16. I need to be honest. I come to this blog to read your opinion of restaurant items, not your opinion on music. I’m not really sure why you needed to add your slam on Christian music at the end of your review. Thanks for pressing your non-food-related agenda. Next time, stick to the topic without taking a cheap shot at an unrelated matter.

  17. The music was playing…inside a restaurant!!! Not unrelated at all nor a cheap shot…. It was an accurate description about what was going on. Talk about a non-food-related agenda… playing this type of music in a restaurant is pushing the agenda of the owners, simple as that. If you don’t like my views, don’t read my blog.

  18. I love to order the cajun combo for breakfast, but I always get fries and tea. They have never not been able to give me fries, even at 8 AM. The fries have a slightly overly salty seasoning on them.

I agree the cajun filet biscuit is almost always pretty dry. I always order jelly packets (grape) with any kind of biscuit I get from them and add an entire packet (sometimes two) to my biscuit. The jelly adds sweetness and moisture. For some reason greasy meat, biscuit and grape jelly is just great.

Their regular bone-in fried chicken is good. Not dry at all.

  19. One of my favorite things on earth is a cajun biscuit from bojangles. heaven on earth. have to try the jelly thing, but my biscuits have always been moist and the chicken is thin, but still amazing (in my humble opinion). sometimes, you can get a thick piece though, and it’s even better. i just had a bojangles pop up about 5 mins from my house and i swear i will weigh 500 lbs very soon. i want one right now.
