Tucked away in the swanky Village of West Clay (think a Disney interpretation of a small town), this is the only game in town for lunch. We worked up an appetite and were in the area so we decided to stop by.
Chappie’s has a great grill sitting outside and a guy grilling burgers on it (you can see it in the pic). I learned that this is part of a special, $9.00 for a Cheeseburger, Chips and a 12 oz. drink. Where is the “special?” Geez.
They have Boar’s Head sign above the counter, so I figured I thought that I would try a sandwich since I am a fan of Boar’s Head meats. My father-in-law and I were split between the Siciliano and the Cuban. So we both got one of each and traded halves. Sandwiches come with chips.
Cuban $8.50 Ham, salami, spiced pork, spicy mustard, provolone, lettuce, tomato and ciabatta.
Cuban sandwiches are full of flavor and this one was not. Very bland. This might have worked as a panini where there was melted cheese, but this was a failure.
This sandwich was not toasted at all. If it was, then I am clueless about food. Either way, I can still give it a fair review. This sandwich was worse than the Cuban. Again, very bland. I would’ve expected a nice saltiness form the pepperoni, salami, and bacon, but I only tasted sub par ciabatta bread and Italian dressing.
Would I Buy It Again? No. I can understand why Chappie’s works. It is right by one of the community pools and it is right in the middle of a large housing development. However, with a drink you are looking at $10+ for a average sandwich and drink that you can easily make at home.
Get this, the signs says “Craft Beer” and on tap they had Stella, Bells Oberon (not bad) and…Miller Lite. Really? You put “Craft Beer” on the sign and have three taps with one of them being Miller Lite?

Assuming chips are a $1 and a drink is $1 – neither of those appear to be $8 sandwiches – where’s the meat?
You had me laughing on the “Really? Miller Lite?”
Much like everything in West Clay, this is overrated and over priced. The only reason it is in business is for the reasons you listed. I’m betting if this placed tried to survive in the “wild” of the general public, it would fail within a year.
If you want the meat, Dagwoods in Broad Ripple and Bloomington is the place to go.
I like that you guys are reviewing places beside your standard chain fastfood places. Bravo! Keep it up. Now educate me, what is Boar’s head meat?
uh uh, no way 8.5o for that? three little slices of oscar meyer ham on day old bread sounds like a mufflitoto, can make that at home, and cheaper too . out it on a plate add a 5 cent pickle
and boom- .75 = 8.75 no thanks.
No way, dude. no way.
Thanks man.. we have been alternating local and fast food…. There are some stellar place in Indy and we are glad to “showcase” them…

You can get it at most grocery stores. Deli meat without a lot of the filler and nonsense (water etc..). IMO, not perfect, but a step above the normal deli meat.
My thoughts exactly. Nice place, good service… they have a few things going for them, but that doesn’t make up the $8.00 gap in the product.
