Revisit: Which Wich

Author: WIBIA | Filed under: Food Reviews

Want to know the story about Which Wich?  Read my first review on the Italian Grinder. My second time around at the Carmel, IN location and I thought that I would be a little more adventurous.   I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak.  I added mushrooms, onions, hot peppers, garlic and of course…. Cheez Whiz!

My thoughts are to stick to the basics here.  A classic Philly Cheesteak has thinly sliced Ribeye… the Which Wich version has deli style/cold cut  roast beef.  Yuck.  My wife tried the chicken parm and had the same problem, fried chicken was no where to be found, it was deli meat chicken instead.

I like Which Wich, but my second time made me narrow my focus and realize that the safer decision…is probably the wiser one.

  1. The more and more that I hear about Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches from anywhere outside of Philadelphia, they less inclined I am to order them. I’ve never had an overwhelmingly positive experience ordering one and it seems like no one else really has either.

There are just somethings that you can only order in one city to have it done right (example: Italian beef sandwich in Chicago) and this appears to be one of them.

  2. Ugh, I’m not a fan of cheese steaks with roast beef. It just doesn’t work. My friend’s restaurant has a philly cheese steak style gyro, and it’s actually really good.

  3. You can get a good cheesesteak outside of Philly, but it’s a rare find indeed. The thing is, you can’t find the same bread they use in Philadelphia, so your behind the eight ball already. The other key, is if a place calls it a Philly or Philly Style Cheesesteak, just walk away. Another problem, is places want to put toppings on them, as well as mayo. A true cheesesteak is nothing more than cheese and meat, with or without onions. Once you go beyond that, your have a cheesesteak hoagie, which is an entirely different beast all together. There is nothing more deflating than walking into a place that claims to have a great cheesesteak, only to find out that it comes with shrooms , dressing, and other crap on it. It proves that the place has no idea what the hell they’re doing, be it good or not.

  5. Jersey’s Cafe in Carmel has some very good cheese steaks.
