Hardee’s Big Shef – $1.50
2 Beef patties, a slice American cheese, shredded lettuce and a special Big Shef sauce.
They had a promo 2 for $3.00 and the Big Shef was an option so I thought that I would give it a try.
First impression was that the sandwich was a little on the small size. With a menu full of pretty solid Thickburgers, little Thickburgers, who is the market for this sandwich? Are they trying to compete against the Big Mac? The Big Mac has a serving size of 214 grams and the Big Shef is 207g. Comparing to the Big Mac at 214g, I would say the Big Shef is a good amount smaller than 207g.
The Big Shef sauce appeared to be mayo with diced pickles. If there is anything else to it, then I would be surprised. There was a ton of it on the sandwich as well. The beef patties were thin and really a non-factor on the taste. It was mostly just Big Shef sauce and bun.
Would I Buy It Again? No. For $1.50, you might think that this is a deal but I can think of many other value menu items from Wendy’s, McD, that I would choose before this one. I like Hardee’s Thickburgers, but any deviation from the Thickburger menu and the very excellent Big Chicken Fillet should be explored with great caution.

Big Shef looks sad
I agree with Ryan. That thing really does look pathetic.
Hardee’s has really been grossing me out lately…their last sign said (might STILL say) new fried bologna biscuit.
I may never eat there again.
I LOVE the thickburgers (especially the Frisco). Sounds like they need to stick with what works and not deviate. No reason for fluff.
Damn, that looks like something they would have served 15 years ago when I worked there! I remember how pleased I was when Hardee’s did their big turnaround and started making respectable fast food. But this looks like a step backward
Hardee’s is selling this poor excuse for a burger so they can hold on to the Burger Chef trademark that was about to expire. The original Big Shef had a center bun. It should also have a lot more lettuce than this thing has. The original Shef sauce was more like a spicy tartar sauce than mayo.
