I guess this is the type of “hard hitting” news that is posted during a holiday weekend.
So I went to Hardee’s last night around 9:00. My schedule was totally off and I had a coupon for the Big Chicken Fillet, 2/$5.00. Review to follow, but spoiler…it is the best fast food chicken sandwich. Yes, I prefer it over Chick-fil-A. And you know how tough I am on Hardee’s, so this has to be good.
It takes about 5 minutes to make, so I was talking to my Hardee’s informant. Think Guitar Hero/Rock Band high school kid.
I asked him what is the next thing to come out and he said that they are going to start making the “Big Hardee’s.” He describes it as the Big Shef, but bigger. Sounds like a Big Carl. The launch is “anytime now.”
He went on to say that they are having a roast beef and cheddar burger. I asked if it was the same roast beef as the French Dip Roast Beef and he said yes, but there is different seasoning on it. Hmmm…it doesn’t sound good.
I went on to ask him about customizing the menu. If you know what is good for you, ask any fast food worker what they eat there and it is always some customized sandwich that they throw together.
His is the “Frisco Chicken.” Basically replace the burger patty with chicken on your standard Frisco setup. He went on to say, you can order whatever you want and they will figure it out. Add bacon to your Big Chicken Fillet, no problem, add 50¢. Add cheese to your chili dog, not a problem.
He went on to say that at cross-branded stores like Hardee’s/Red Burrito that you can go across the restaurants. For instance, nacho cheese on a burger. Btw, Red Burrito is not all that bad and I like the cross branding idea.
Now I am thinking about all the combinations that I can make. Hmm…

Frisco chicken? Drooooool.
As I alluded to in a previous post, the Frisco is one of my favorite fast food burgers, so anything with the same setup would work well.
And don’t be so hard on Hardees. I actually think it’s underrated (though you guys are experts and I’m admittedly not even close to one).
Why alter perfection?
The only cross-brand we have here is KFC/Taco Bell – hmmmm, makes me wonder what one could modify with those two menus?
I have a soft spot for Hardee’s. It was the first time I ever had a fast food hot dog [I was in HS and had no idea Hardee's even existed let alone sold hot dogs!] They are pretty much non existent where I live, but we can always find one while on a road trip – ubiquitous freeway pull off.
The only way I was thinking of altering it was having like a triple slider. Mmmm…sliders. There will definitely be a slider review coming at some point this fall.
does it taste anything like chick-fil-a? or even the mcdonald’s version of chick-fil-a (southern style)? CFA is my fave but hardees is way closer…Thanks !
There is no way anything from Hardee’s or Carl’s Jr. can be better than Chick-Fil-A. It had to be an anomaly. A freak occurrence.
Hardees new beef and cheddar sandwich is a waste of money. It costs only $3.00 for two but it only has 6 small slices of roast beef on a giant bun. The advertising has you believe the meat is as thick as the top of the bun when in fact it is less than 1/4 size of the bottom of the bun. As I waited for my food to be put in a bag, a man from corporate shows up with 7 or 8 others to see the new sign. I walked up to him outside with my beef and cheddar with the top of the bun off and held it up to the the huge ad and asked him if it looked anything like the sign. He told me I should go talk to a manager. The manager laughed and said she thinks it is ridiculous to only have 6 slices and be on such a large bun and has no idea how much it should weigh but it was made correctly. So much for thick….
