World’s Best Pizza!  Smoked mozzarella cheese, roaster pepper sauce, fresh sausage, roasted peppers & onions.

I am really touchy about people making huge claims like (OMG, that is the best “_____” ever!!).  Really?  So you have had every one of those possible to know that it is the best ever?  So, when a restaurant touts “World’s Best Pizza”, I am extra critical.  Anyway, on to the pizza…the good news is that it was cooked perfectly and pretty to the eyes.  There was no shortage of toppings and I couldn’t wait to dig in.

I liked:
-Roasted Pepper Sauce was excellent.
-Toppings were fresh and each piece was not too big or too small.
-Basil was not listed on the menu, but that was a nice surprise.

I didn’t like:
-Topping: crust ratio was a little off.  Too much crust as I tend to learn more toward edge to edge.
-Too much green pepper (difficult to see in the pic).  In fact, just take the green pepper off.
-Pricey.

Would I Buy It Again?  Yes, but not that often.  For the record, it is not the best pizza in the world.  However, it was good.  On a 10 point scale, I would give it a 7.  Goodfellas has an extensive list of pizzas on their menu.  I would try something else, but would never hesitate to order the “Smokin’ Goodfella.”

  1. Way too much crust for me. It actually makes the pizza look kind of disgusting in my mind.

  2. It looks like a bread bowl at first glance. Definitely not for me. Roasted red pepper sauce does sound good though!

  3. Yep, looks like too much crust. I suspect this is a VERY high profit item! :)

  4. @rick & rebecca ..agreed, not a ton of value here. I really liked the taste of it and that is why it got a very soft “yes.” Based on value, I would give it a “no.” Even though I said yes, I would have to be wanting pizza and at Goodfella’s for me to buy it again.

  5. Too much crust there…I’ve been really into thin crust pizzas lately. mmmm roasted pepper sauce.

  6. Ah, come on guys! The crust/bread is the most important part of the pizza. This is why I love Sal’s so much, yummy crust. That being said, I have eaten Goodfella’s once several years ago and have not been back so I guess that says it all.

  7. Ooo! I’d take that crusty pizza anytime! (it would sure beat the frozen kind I just ate)

  9. @WIBIA: Being an Indiana man, I would assume you’re familiar with Pizza King…am I right? I thought of them when you mentioned the edge-to-edge pizza style. They make a mean pizza, fo sho. Arni’s is another Indiana pizza chain similar to the King. If you’ve never had Pizza King, I’d highly recommend it. Their sausage/onion/bbq pizza is to die for, IMO. Their Texas BBQ sub is killer, as well. There’s one in Lafayette (a little NW of Indy) that has a little model train that brings your drinks to your table. It’s really cool.

  10. Y ak now bronze, it is on my list. I live right by one, but I have yet to try it. Thanks for the heads up.

  11. I’ve had Pizza King many times in my life and I do think it is quite tasty. I used to be very partial to the Stromboli sandwiches that they have. Mmmm…

There are a lot of people like you that absolutely love the place, and while I think it is good, I don’t quite understand the huge love affair that some people have with it. It’s kind of pricey too, which is a drawback in my mind.

  12. How was the crust? I love pizza, and if I run out of toppings and sauce, I can still keep going if the crust is tasty. Good crust/dough makes a difference to me. The pic above looks mighty good. But pics are deceiving.

  13. Arni’s and Pizza King use the same recipes. When I was a kid, I never understood my parents’ love for that pizza either. Now, it’s easily my favorite from a chain. Royal Feast is legit, toppings galore.

On Goodfellas, the picture of the middle of the pizza looks phenomenal, but, I have to agree with most everyone else … that’s just too much crust. Gimme the good stuff.

  14. I LOVE the Smokin Goodfella! But definitely skip the individual size…go for the bigger one and the topping/crust ratio is not an issue.
