A&W Papa Burger

What I Got:  Papa Burger 90¢

After hearing that A&W was offering burgers for 90¢ on Father’s Day, I felt that I had to give it a shot.  I’m not a father, but I do enjoy cheap food and since it was my first ever trip to A&W for food, I went in with no expectations.

This Papa Burger was a double cheeseburger topped with lettuce, chopped onions, pickles, tomato, “special” sauce and served on a sesame seed bun.  The special sauce seemed to be very similar to Thousand Island dressing but did not quite have the same bite that Thousand Island salad dressing usually has.  In terms of toppings and ingredients, this burger had all the makings of something special.

Alas, toppings do not make a burger and that was the case with this one.  The toppings were wonderful but the burger patties were thin and tasted like I was chewing on a couple of pieces of leather and that is obviously not a recipe for a good burger.

Would I Buy It Again?  No, I would not.  If A&W were to find a way to put a couple of decent tasting or at least decent sized burger patties on this, it would be a favorite of mine.  But, I’ll never find out if they make that change because I have no intentions of ever eating this burger again.

  2. Yuck. I’ve never had any desire to eat at A&W, and this doesn’t help!

  3. I must say though….their root beer is phenomenal, did you partake? It’s seriously addicting.

At least this only cost you $.99!

  4. I took part in the free root beer float promotion that they had on Friday, so I’ve definitely had it before and it was delicious.

  5. Head lettuce is terrible in or on about anything.

  7. A&W root beer is pretty good. I’m partial to Barq’s myself, though. Anything but Mug root beer!

To the guys in the Indy area: What do you think about Dog ‘n Suds root beer? I think it’s the bee’s knees.

  8. A&W in Muncie was one of my favorite cruising places in Muncie, years and years ago. I don’t think I’ve been back since I was a teenager…and that’s been a LONG time ago!

  9. Not a big fan of D&S really. Indy is missing a great drive in. Don’t even mention Mug N Bun!

  10. I’m a big fan of Gene’s Root beer Stand in Anderson…it could be because it conjures up fond childhood memories or because their root beer floats are fantastic.

  11. Mug n Bun.

I still remember like yesterday the time I craved it so bad I drove there from my home in Br Ripple alone to get it, gorged myself on a peanut butter malt and a grilled cheese, and then promptly had to pull over and chuck it all up, presumably due only to the sheer quantity of saturated fat molecules in said meal, not because of any untoward organisms going on. Despite the fact I was hungry again when I got home, I still felt I got my money’s worth.

  12. Ha love it!
