My first time visiting since the blog, I have had a few hits and misses, friends say the same. Sometimes this blog is here to help you navigate menus, not just restaurants.
Located in Broadrippple, this joint has a great location. Just in case you hate it, there is a McDonalds right around the corner. Dress code is whatever, jeans are cool. Expect a brief wait on the weekend.
What I Ate:
Ahi Tuna Special (I didn’t pay the bill)
Large Frites $4.95.
Mussels Provencal $16.95. 2 lb. (comes with small frites as well).
We had the Ahi Tuna special as an appetizers. It was served with a salad and on a corn polenta cakes. On top of the tuna were marinated tomatoes. Wow, this was bad. The tuna was cooked well, but it didn’t have any flavor. Corn polenta was dry and cold. So think about it so far.. hot tuna and basically cold corn bread. This was the food equivalent of throwing a dart at a dart board and missing the whole thing…with your date watching you.
Mussels have 7 different preparations to choose from. I had Provencal tonight. Butter, herbs de provence, shallot, garlic and french chardonnay. GOODNIGHT! These were awesome. A really deep flavor and I usually ask for extra bread so I can dunk it in the broth. I have had Citron as well on a prior visit and I would recommend them.
Frites are excellent here. Classic Belgium preparation and you can choose from a myriad of dipping sauces. I recommend: roasted garlic aioli, hot curry, and syrup/french dijon. Stay away form the pesto. Portions are a good size, but they should be for $4.95 for a large.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes, and it is going on the RECOMMENDED (Independent) list. This is a great meal and an Indy gem. I didn’t even mention their beers (which are excellent). Stick to only the mussels and frites and maybe a crepe. Everything else on the menu has paled in comparison. Do yourself a favor, skip lunch, leave work at 4:00 this Friday and tee up a few beers and mussels here. You will thank me later.

Haha….there’s a McDonald’s right around the corner for those who don’t want it!
How are you so quick to respond?!?! You have magical powers Bear, I think that you are from the future.
Hehehehehhe
That’s hysterical….duck…..NOW!
I loev Brugge’s food, but their wait staff is consistently, year-in-year-out, craptastic. Nice, sure, but slow as Christmas. In the year 2029. Which is a very slow year for Christmas.
Mussels…I just can’t bring myself to try them!
I just had dinner here last night. I’ve only ever had the crepes, sandwiches, frites and beer. But everything I’ve had there has been wonderful! My favorit is the roasted pork and goat cheese crepe. Oh and the Tripel de Ripple is not to be missed!
I always wondered how the Roasted pork and goat chese crepe was. Thanks for the heads up and I will give it a try next time! I had the Tripel de Ripple when I was there and I agree with you. I try not to review beer/drinks, I leave that up to Indy Beer Geek and people with a better understanding!
I’ll second the roasted pork & goat cheese crepe and the beers, but those mussels can be a delicious disaster.
I love mussels and used to order them whenever I was at Brugge, but I’ve gotten sick twice in a row after eating them there, so I stick to frites and crepes now.
