Redamak’s

This place is kind of f-ed up.  I know, almost my first f-bomb on the blog, but I am not sure how else to describe it.  It doesn’t really follow any rules to having restaurant, I mean who really wants air conditioning and to pay with cash only?

Think that I am lying?  Click on the link to their site and turn up your speakers!  Seriously, “Living In America” by James Brown from Rocky IV?!

So let me set the scene, weekend vacation town for Chicagoans.  Old school joint that has been around for 34 years.  Cash only and it is only open during the summer.  Everything is served on paper or plastic.  Service is ok at best.  T-shirts and other nonsense for sale at the front.  The weekends will usually have a wait of 30 minutes or more.

I really feel like this is the Salty Dog of lower Michigan.  A place where rich people go to be among everyone else and put self taken pictures on their Facebook page saying how cool it is to be there.  Ok, I will stop.

What I Ate: Double Cheeseburger $6.25, Cheese Fries $2.75, Curly Fries $3.00

On the double cheese, it comes with raw onion, ketchup, mustard and cross cut dill pickles.  This is a no frills burger.  The bun is almost spongy from the grease and it all melts together in your mouth.  Burger is wrapped in paper and then tossed on your table.  The double is a gut bomb, and they have a triple available.  I am not sure what my stomach would like more, a triple cheese or a punch from Ivan Drago.

Cheese fries are good, but the portion was skimpy!   Redamack’s never used to be this way, but they will not lose people by cutting portions.  It is my last time ordering cheese fries from here.  However, this was my first time ordering curly fries and they were tasty.  Nothing original about them, just done well and a honest portion.

Would I Buy It Again? Yes and recommended.  Redamaks and I have strange relationship, I really should hate it, but I love it.  The place is kind of a time warp, wood on the walls and a menu that has stood the test of time.  It is a guilty/tasty burger.

Redamak’s Hours:

  1. Haha. I have a place like this near me, Burger Pit. It’s horrible but I love going there. Not really sure why. The wait is horrifically long and you have to stand in line to order (it’s a sit down place). They have a salad bar that is actually decent, mainly because they have imitation crab meat :)

    I’m digging their website :P

  2. I have to say that I really enjoy going here. It is one of my must go to places when we are up there. Though as WIBIA states I was shocked by the small servings of fries. It was kind of a joke considering we were a table of four!!!! However, I still would go back again.

  4. I have had Redamak’s a handful of times and really enjoyed it. Much like Hinkle’s Hamburgers in Bloomington or Dyer’s Hamburgers in Memphis on Beale Street. it’s the anti-Red Robin: greasy, messy, unhealthy, and oh so tasty!
