Review: Burger King Steakhouse Burger XT

Author: WIBIA | Filed under: Food Reviews

From our Burger King Ribs review, we let you know that Burger King has new broilers in Indiana so we get a few new menu items here and there.  Recently, it is the XT version of the Steakhouse Burger.

What I Ate: Steakhouse Burger XT Combo $6.09

My wife ordered a Whopper Junior and when comparing the size of both burgers, it reminded me of Danny Devito and Arnold Swawznegger in the movie “Twins.”  This was a huge burger.

The burger has mayo, crispy onion strings, tomato, lettuce, melted cheese and A1 steak sauce.  Same as the normal steakhouse, but this one has a monster sized patty.  XT stands for Extra Thick.  It would’ve been a lot funnier to call it E.T.

As far as the taste, the tomato was low quality and the lettuce was limp.  Overall, it was a mushy burger.  Before Burger King released this sandwich, they should have mixed A1 and Mayo together and tasted it.  That is just sick.  This burger would’ve been far better without mayo.   The XT hamburger patty was good, but nothing better than you can find on a Hardee’s or Carl’s Jr Thickburger.

Would I Buy It Again?  No. The match-up on the table is Haredee’s Thickburger V. Burger King XT.   The XT tried hard, but the thickburgers at Hardee’s are still king of the hill.  However, I didn’t dislike this burger, but take out the mayo, replace fried onion with raw onion and I think that we might be on to something.

  1. Oh yeah man….you can’t beat Hardee’s! Plus that seems WAY to expensive…especially for a new item, they usually discount ‘em so people will try it out and get hooked.

Question: If you could build the perfect burger to sell at an establishment such as Burger King or Hardee’s (Carl’s Jr. :P ) what would it be?

  2. Good question Bear. I would make/market a “Gourmet Burger.” I would take a patty around a ½ pound, prosciutto, horseradish mayo, lettuce, tomato on a rosemary or onion bun. Or something along those lines.

Or I would do a cool southwest burger with roasted poblano peppers and do a white nacho cheese. Serve the fries with a chipotle ketchup. The same combo would be killer on a sausage breakfast sandwich too.

Hardees has missed the boat on the “$6.00 burger.” The only creative differences in the premium burger from a normal burger is a bigger patty and slop BBQ and an onion ring on it (or something along those lines.) Boring.

Keep in mind, the $6.09 was for a combo. All the prices that I list are without tax.

  3. I generally like BK (Except for that CREEPY mascot) but this sandwich, plain and simple, sucks.

  4. I love the King! I don;t see him that much anymore, but the one that he was standing by the bedroom window for the breakfast sandwich was a classic.

  5. The King likes square butts and cannot lie. You have to have seen the new BK ad campaign where the chicks with square butts are dancing and the King is all over them! It rules.

The bedroom window one ruled too. Actually, all the ads with the King rule.

Here’s a nice synopsis on his superb NFL career:

  6. Here’s the King loving square butts:

  7. WIBIA let me taste this burger, and I personally was not a big fan. It tasted like mush–it is definitely missing some CRUNCH. It may be better, as he said, with raw onion. Plus the mayo was just overdone–which I found to be the same with my whopper jr. No more XT burgers for us.

  8. [...] As far as larger fast food burgers, MCD is knocking on Hardee’s door.  I am not going to go as far as saying that this is better than Hardee’s $6 Dollar Burger, however it is far superior to Burger Kings lame attempt “Steakhouse XT.” [...]

  9. That’s not fair, you went to a bad store, food tastes a lot different depending on which one you go to.

  10. Well of course taste varies. We review what they give us, that is it. Lack of consistency is not my problem. That is why I am anon, you don’t see me coming and I get food that your average Joe gets.

  11. I think the BK Steakhouse XT Burger is better than Hardee’s Thickburger, McDonald’s Angus Third Pounder & Jack in the Box’s Sirloin Burgers Combined.

  12. Gimme dat frucking burga!
