What happens when you mix the basic fresh menu of In ‘N Out, the old school steakburger charm of Steak ‘n Shake and a trendy touch, this place…
An Indianapolis original opened a few years ago in an already crowded burger market, it was my first visit since I started the blog.
What I Ate: #1 Double Steakburger with cheese combo. $6.59.
Burgers are made to order (I usually add grilled onions at no extra cost). Walk up to the counter and they will call your number when it is done. You can ask for them to add cherry or vanilla syrup into your soda, so that”s a nice touch.
The double is a good sized burger. Toasted bun, crispy lettuce, pickle, tomato, cheese and a homemade secret sauce. Everything is well balanced. There are no overwhelming flavors and it is not greasy, just a very tasty and polite burger. Clean flavors and well put together.
Fries are average, although they were fresh and were evenly cooked. They also appear to be unseasoned. They are not bad, but not the reason to go there.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes. Recommended. An emphasis on freshness and consistency it is worth the extra money that you would pay at a chain restaurant. Change the fries a little and this could make it in the Hall of Fame.
Rambling: Crowded burger market on 96th Street in Indy. Culver’s is right down the road and Famous Jacks, McDonald’s, Burger King and Steak ‘n Shake are all within a mile. For me, it is usually Culver;s or 96th Street, depending on the day! I think that in 2007 they were given the title “Best Milkshake in Indy.” Either way, it is not true. Steak ‘n Shake and DQ has them beat. Don’t get me wrong, they are not bad, but not the best in Indy.
