Author: WIBIA | Filed under: Announcements/News

Just got an e-mail from the marketing firm for Chic-fil-A.   They were giving samples away last week, but there are some interesting options here.  The smoothies sound good to me.  Either way, I applaud Chic-fil-A for provide healthy options at their restaurants.  Truncated press release:

Chick-fil-A Selects Indianapolis to Test Low-Fat Breakfast Options

Area restaurants to offer free breakfast items April 20-24

Indianapolis, ind. (March 25, 2009) – In response to a growing demand for lower-fat breakfast alternatives, Chick-fil-A has selected Indianapolis as a test market to evaluate two new products geared especially for health-conscious customers: a Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie and a Yogurt Parfait, as well as a Breakfast Kid’s Meal option and an enhanced premium coffee blend.

Indianapolis is one of just three markets nationwide where the Atlanta-based restaurant chain will conduct a two-month product evaluation among customers.  The test will be conducted from March 30 to May 30 at 13 area Chick-fil-A restaurants, as well as locations in Austin, Texas and Knoxville, Tenn.

Following is more information on the breakfast options under consideration:

·        Fruit and Yogurt Smoothies – Customers looking for a low-fat breakfast option will enjoy a Blueberry Pineapple or Strawberry Banana Smoothie.  The new Smoothies are made-to-order with real fruit, creamy vanilla yogurt, orange juice and freshly squeezed Chick-fil-A® Lemonade.  Each contains two servings of fruit and is a good source of calcium.  Served during breakfast hours as well as during lunch and dinner, the Smoothies are available in 14 oz ($3.79) and 20 oz ($4.85).

·        Chick-fil-A® Yogurt Parfait – The new Yogurt Parfait includes slices of fresh strawberries, covered in creamy, vanilla yogurt topped with either Chick-fil-A’s own Harvest Nut Granola blend or Chocolate Cookie Crumbs.  The Yogurt Parfait will be offered throughout the day and is priced at $2.19.

·        Chick-fil-A Breakfast Kid’s Meal – Chick-fil-A’s young fans now have a breakfast option designed especially for them.  The Breakfast Kid’s Meal includes Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Minis™ (2-count); a side choice of a fruit cup, yogurt cup* or hash browns; a child’s-sized drink and a Kid’s Meal premium for $3.39.

·        Chick-fil-A House Roast Coffee – The new Chick-fil-A® House Roast blend is a medium roast and in test to replace the chain’s current Coffeehouse Light™ and Bistro Dark® coffee offerings.  The Chick-fil-A House Decaf® will also be a medium roast blend of coffee.

Woody Faulk, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of brand development and director of the chain’s menu strategy, says the Smoothie and Yogurt Parfait are a direct result of feedback Chick-fil-A has received from customers.  “Our customers have made it clear that they would like to have healthier alternatives for breakfast.  With the Smoothie and Yogurt Parfait offerings, we feel like we now have a breakfast menu that appeals to a more diverse customer base – from our signature Chicken Biscuit for the more hearty appetite to the Cinnamon Cluster for those craving something sweet in the morning to the health-minded customer who now has an additional choice of a Smoothie or Yogurt Parfait.  We also believe customers will enjoy the Smoothie and Yogurt Parfait as a snack or dessert option throughout the day.”

  1. I don’t know….I find that usually parfait and smoothies at fast food places are WAY less “healthy” than they claim. I hate Jamba Juice for this very reason. Some of their smoothies contain 3 scoops of ice cream…granted they have somewhat healthy options but the average customer does not know how bad their Razzmataz is, they think because they walked a few blocks and are drinking a Jamba Juice that they’re healthy…then they go home and eat a bad dinner becuase their afternoon snack was “good” for them.

Sorry I’m rambling…well you can see I don’t care for them much :P

  2. I agree Bear. Pick any restaurant and they do this. Low calories/fat could mean sodium packed or something else. My favorite Smoothie King drink is not healthy at all. I would love to see nutrition facts, but I don’t have them. I figured the press release as is was interesting enough to “report.”

  3. I was curious to know the calorie count on the new smoothies, so I emailed corporate HQ. Not bad, I could fit them into my calorie budget. I thought the blueberry one was pretty tasty!

    small strawberry = 310 cal, 3g fat
    large strawberry = 430 cal, 4.5g fat
INGREDIENTS: Strawberry, banana, Yogurt (cultured pasteurized Grade A reduced fat milk, sugar, modified corn starch, gelatin, pectin, natural and artificial flavors. Contains streptococcus thermophilus and lactobacillus bulgaricus cultures), Water, freshly-squeezed lemon juice, 100% pure squeezed orange juice, sugar.

  8. Sarah, thanks for the nutrition info! I’ve had three of the blueberry/pineapple smoothies from Chick Fil A and I really like them. I’ve been avoiding finding out how many calories were in them because they tasted so good. I’m thrilled to find out it’s only 320! What a deal!

  9. I emailed Chick-Fil-A and they sent me the nutrition info for the parfait. This doesn’t count the granola topping (nutrition info for that is already available on their website).
