Steak ‘n Shake
Location: From Texas to Pennsylvania.
Sliders, Shooters, Shots and even Billy Mayes is getting in on the mini burgers trend. I am never a fan of the equation of – give me less, pay the same.
What I ate: $.99 each, cheese included or 3 and fries for $3.99. I got the combo and added 2 so I downed all 5.

The same preparation is used on each of these. Burger, Cheese and the added condiment. There was very little of said condiment on each burger.
I am not sure where to start, but these are bad. Yes, all of them. Steak ‘n Shake has made strides with their 4 under $4 combo deal and their milkshake happy hours, but this is a step back.
Lets rank them from bad to really bad:
Chipotle – The only tolerable one.
Frisco
A1
Ketchup and Mustard
BBQ
Verdict: No, I would not buy it again. Better choices available at Steak ‘n Shake. Good idea, poor execution.
Instead: White Castle still is the original and best slider. If at Steak ’n Shake, try their new Peppercorn Steakburger and let me know how it is.

I now live outside both Steak ‘n’ Shake and White Castle territory, and hate it. Well, I love it for other reasons, but the burger part of my new life is a major deprivation.
So let’s get on with it:
> White Castle still is the original and best slider.
Half and half. Original? yep. Best (when and if fresh)? Certainly. But the ‘if’ part is a major problem. My lifetime average at the Castle of drive-up-to-the-window and get a) “fresh, hot, luscious” vs. b) dried-under-the-heat-lamp is about 65%.
Steak ‘n’ Shake? 100%, and they have more variety. On the down side, they _may_ make the majestically foolish decision to drop them from the menu, but on the other hand, the variety is SO COOL. I had a couple of chipotle/cheese samples the other day, and, in summary: GET IN ME BELLY!
p.s.
Other pale slider wannabes like BK’s “stuffers”, “grabbers”, “wankers”, whatever: good, but not the original.
I have been getting a lot flyer/coupons in the mail recently for Steak N Shake. I always save them, but I never want to go to the “Shake”. Their regular burgers are good, but those are ALREADY tiny. How big are these smaller Shooters? Will they fit in a GIJOE w/Kung-Fu Grip? These Shooters look laughable. And I hate the wire-thin fries they have.
They cook these on a clam shell instead of grilling them like regular burgers.
9 times out of 10, the person operating the grill doesn’t put the steak n shake season salt on them either.
If you cook em on the grill like normal burgers, they don’t turn out dry.
If you grill the buns right (most of the time they aren’t toasted long enough), they actually taste like something. However most customers won’t experience that.
They also force the employees to wrap them in tiny wrappers, which take up time to put more attention on the toppings.
If you have to dress and wrap three little burgers instead of one, you’re probably not going to get as much condiment.
You can ask for vegetables on them also, but they’ll charge you. It’d also probably make the dressing table operator angry.
