McDonald’s – Filet-O-Fish

Headline:  Who Cut the Cheese?
MCD
(96th and Meridian)

Stopped by for a quick lunch to hold me over.  Seeing that Filet-O-Fish are on sale two for $3.49, I figured that it must be Lent!  The FOF is a love/hate with most people and I love them.  My wife hates them and I have no chance of making out with her within five hours of eating one.

I am not going to review them as there is no point. I remember when these were two for $2.22 about a year ago; now that is inflation!  My question though, where is the cheese?  I remember them to have a full slice of cheese, so what is going on here?

Maybe I am wrong, but if you agree or work(ed) at McDonalds, leave a comment.  Two for $3.49 and they are worth it.  Regular price is $2.69 and I’d rather hit the dollar menu at that price point.

  1. Yeah the Filet O Fish has definitely been downsized. Have you ever noticed how little cheese there is? I think its supposed to be a half slice of American but it seems like a third slice. Maybe that’s a good thing…don’t know about cheesy fish. I had one of these the other day and it’s definitely smaller than I remember.

  2. It has gotten tiny! BK has a MUCH bigger fish sandwich for the money. I had one a few months back and that thing was HUGE!

  3. I agree on the size of the filet being downsized, but I worked at McD in the mid eighties and made these sandwiches. The cheese slice was always one half, not a full [at the three McDs I worked at anyway.]

I really miss the steaming of the bun tho’ :( – sigh…now it is all microwaved and not as good. But the tartar sauce still stains my clothes!

  4. I love Filet-O-Fish. It melts in your mouth, the bun is steamed and soft, and I love the tartar sauce. I think Burger Kings fish sandwich is overkill. They put lettuce(which is warm and limp)on it and DROWN it with a tartar sauce that isn’t very good. And while I usually prefer bigger, this filet is TOO BIG. MickeyDs is better.

  5. McDonald’s priced me out and i’m irked about it. I refuse to pay over $3 for a Filet-O-Fish. Burger King’s Big Fish puts McDonald’s to shame. Shame on you McDonald’s. Your corporate greed has driven me away.

  6. Yeah, I agree with most here. Used to love them, years ago at about 1.79 with a full slice of cheese, and a bigger fillet. Now I make em at home if I get the craving. ( some gordons or mrs paul’s crunchy breaded portions, slice of american, some mayo and sweet pickle relish on a standard burger burn and your there, for about 1.45 a piece. If I’m gonna eat one out at fast food, I go to BK. A thicker, better tasting fillet, and tell them to add cheese, if you want. Best I ever had was at red robin, but it was 7 bucks with fries, so you cant really compare. Really like your blog. Unbiased information, and it is interesting to read the comment, see what others think, in different parts of the country ( I live in NC). Thanks.

  7. Thanks Tom for the kind words. Never thought about making them at home. I like Red Robin, but for about $13 for combo, tax, tip and drink… I can do just as good for about half at most fast food places.
